Tricky-Ricky
Like water, colourless and transparent. Smells different though (lol) and spills much easier (lower surface tension!) Not a nice substance, best work outdoors. "Smells different though " Its very toxic to breath:(
JohnA
the fumes are toxic, hence the 'not nice substance' reference Not my first choice for eye-drops.
Lucifer
If you put model racing fuel in your engine, Feel free to call me when it goes bang..... that fuels is lubricated and I wouldnt like to say what it would do, and is quite viscious even at 5%
Syed Shah
Your are supposed to run a lube with meth anyway.
Lucifer
Your are supposed to run a lube with meth anyway. I think youll find thats only if you running it through hollies.
Syed Shah
Hollies? The Meth kits a guy on SF used to sell suggested use of lube in the meth, if running in higher concentrations. Same with most other meths kits AFAIK.
Lucifer
I was refering to Holly carbs, in which case you prob lookign at full blown meth /alc draggers. In which case you will need some mineral based lube, castor oil was agood bet in 1 part to 100.
JamieP
do you mix methanol with water... if so what ratio....cheers jamie
Syed Shah
Eirther way, your 1st comment is very OTT. Meth is commonly lubed, and will not make your engine got 'bang'.
Lucifer
Mix 50/50 but use more water than meth if in doubt, water is a very powerful power giver at our level. Syed, I take it back, im sure everyones engines will be fine.
JohnA
Your are supposed to run a lube with meth anyway. I wouldn't think so. As said before, pure methanol and distilled water.
Chris Wilson
Methanol is a constituent in some model aircraft / car / boat / helicopter / whatever, engines. Normally mixed with other ingredients it is also available separately, from model shops, although iin small quantities it's an expensive way to buy it. You only need to worry about adding an upper cylinder lubricant in two stroke engines or when it is the sole propellant.
JohnA
Exactly, the mix is meant for two-stroke engines. And the yank carbs, as Martin said. Here we're talking about fuel injected four-stroke engines using the Aquamist pump, and any rogue additive is a risk for blocked nozzles or a damaged pump. To be safe: if in doubt, *ask* first, don't improvise and hope for the best.
