SMW
Plenty of tyre threads I know but none with the quite the answer I'm looking for. Currently running with 265's rear and 235's front. Rears are definitely in need of replacement but fronts still have a fair bit of tread. (Were fitted as a set) I'm wanting to put 275's on at the back and when the time comes 245's on in front. How bad an idea is it to run with the combination of 275 rear and 235 front or am I worrying about nothing?

I'm not sure I would go with 245 fronts however

AJI
245 fronts is no problem either, plenty of guys on here including myself run 245 fronts. Also no problem with 275 rear 235 front setup, the handling balance will be slightly different but you won't notice it unless you are properly giving it some round corners etc.
Steve W2
I'm running 245 front and 275 rear and have no problems at all. I can't see that running 235 on the fornt would make a great deal of difference unless you are giving it a bit of Nigel Mansell action.

Although since Leon fitted my Teins and did the alignment it's all but gone. Do they cost much more than 235's
Matt Harwood
Ahh, I thought you were about to come up with some technical reason as to why 235's were better than 245's I've got 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 - Works for me, although, I've never tried anything different

Steve W2
I'm sure I will look stupid for asking this but here goes anyway.... I am running exactly the same tyre sizes as Matt H and am wondering why you have 40's on the front and 35's on the back. I have just bought new tyres and was considering getting 35's on the front, didn't in the end though. Can you run 35's front and back, is there a specific reason not to? Scooter
Its all about keeping the same rolling radius of the wheels front and back. Wider rears have lower series tyres (35) to stay approx same radius / diameter as the narrower fronts. There is a spreadsheet previously posted by Thorin, which i searched for but the link is now not working. I have it saved at home so could post it up later. SMW
Glad I was worrying about nothing! Have ordered 2 x 275/35/18 Goodyear F1. Quoted £176 each fitted from Bracknell Tyre and Battery. I presume this price is okay? I've always found them to be the cheapest in the past.
