Muffleman
My kid brother is looking for a new car. Doesn't want to spend more than £3k, but would like something with some speed. He's found a couple of 2.5 twin turbo Soarers for his price range. Obviously they'll need a careful look over, but what are they like ? How much of them is the same as a Supra ? Tried to get him to up his budget to an NA Supra Cheers Matt

terribleturner
I've only ever seen/heard Joe's (Gamer), and i have to say they are a damn fine car.
UltraFlynn
I've got a mate who swears that they are fabulous cars. His only issue is the total lack of traction in the wet. I suggested he fitted RLTC which would probably sort that out. They're not cheap to run though. His is a K-reg and when it goes into the garage it always seems to spend a wodge of his cash. Gamer
They are very well built cars. 3K is a bit on the low side for a decent example though so be wary. They share many of the same parts, if you click on 'my ride' link below you will see that I use quite a few Supra related parts. Traction can be an issue in the wet as with most high power rear wheel drive vehicles, some come with factory TC (not very good). I have RLTC installed in mine. Here is a basic list of Soarer faults & fixes http://www.toyotaimportsforum.co.uk/soarer/soarer_faults.htm
Chris Wilson
Superb cars. Paid £900 for one a bit ago, no heater working, fixed it in an hour, sold it for 2750. Still going strong at 180,000 miles, cats out, driven by a maniac. No point in getting a V8 for all the gizmos, most don't work in the UK, the 2.5 TT is the nicest. Manuals are nearly always thrashed and abused dogs, but very rare. Autos are lovely. Lots of tuning potentail, the 2.5 is a "nicer" engine than the 3 litre in the MKIV, as it's a shorter stroke and as sweet as they come. Parts are still expensive, as dear as the MKIV, and harder to get.

trooper
I had a V8 LTD for over five years and I loved it. Probably the most comfortable car I've ever been in. Broke down once due to faulty PAS pump which pissed into the alternator. Not expensive to fix. A real head turner and I still see it from time to time as I sold it to my brother. Slighty more expensive to maintain than my Supra. After I sold it I bought an XJ8, what a pile of poo that was. Sold that rapidly for the Supe but would defo have considered another Soarer. Syed Shah
3k won't get a nice one, spend a little more (4-4.5k) and you can get a minter. IMHO stay away from the manual, it is not a nice manual box (Getrag is another league). And its a bit like a manual Jag: Rare - yes, nice - no. RobSoarer2.5TT
Oh and mine is for sale for 2K to shift it quick nothing wrong with it, no dog in this house!!! I'm selling her for what she owes me, just to cover myself, the guy I brought it off had no idea of it's worth or the car. I just need to buy my misses a car, so WE are mobile again she wants a bloody Vitara Wide Boy................CHAV It's a 92 Auto 2.5 TT Mines the commom green colour has the all important front lip, and Soarer mats. Only bad points are A spot on the spoiler (50p Size), of missing paint where I was a bit close with the jet wash. A few small dents, I mean small and a few scratches but then again the car is 15 years old. The exhuast heat shield rattles, one of those things you mean to get round to. 9 months MOT 3 months tax All electrics work 100% speedo converted to MPH no blinky dash Lower control arms fine. No smoke from turbos, held boost fine Great car but shes gotta go It's back to stock trim now, but click on my sig pic to see how she looked 3 weeks ago, prior to losing my license. andrew7
£2k Rob, you're mad.. The Air con pump, the g/box, a working digital dash, good frobt headloghts and the alternator are worth that much....
RobSoarer2.5TT
Yer but no but yer I need to shift it quickly and with Flea-bay prices the way they are it a safe bet. Normally for £2k you geet a fag burnt interior not in this case mine is mint, not a burn/ tear anywhere. I just need to shift her quick so I can get a new driver friendly car for my misses, problem is it can't be a £400 shitter as it'll have to cover my business mileage for the next 11 months approx 24'000 miles so it needs to be semi decent to last the time. NOBODY WOULD INSURE HER
Syed Shah
Oh she can be insured, but it is more than your selling the car for! Parents? Seriusly, at 2k you really are losing out bigtime.
