dangerous brain
http://activeautowerke.com/supercharger/e39m5/main.php Now that would seriously tempt me into an M5
francis
Nice, I always liked the M5 - infact it was the only other car I was considering when purchasing the Supra.... A very refined car with unbelievable performance and ultimate practicality. 600bhp in one of those, well bugger me 400bhp as standard isn't bad either though! dangerous brain
What power output do the different models actually have? I've had a look over on the M5 board but I'm finding information a bit difficult to find at first glance.
francis
I always thought the E39 had 400bhp standard. The latest one has 510bhp I believe, when it's running on all
dangerous brain
oooo very tempting. I'm also considering an audi s8 at the mo or a mark 2 aristo maybe.
francis
Terrific value for money, when I was looking about 8 months ago you could get a 2000 reg E39 M5 with ~70k on the clock for about £17k... They're not as solid as a Supra though, apparently the VANOS (BMW's version of VTEC) is prone to failure and is a £2k+ item to fix... It seems customary for owners to keep the BMW warranty, and cars sold without it are much cheaper. I'd imagine fuel economy is about the same as a Supra... Insurance on the other hand was much more expensive on the M5 and this was the deciding factor for me.... don't regret it for a minute though
francis
The S8 should be great value for money, doesn't look as nice as the M5 in my opinion though... The facelift M5's are the best, with the angel eye headlights and updated dash.
Terminator
But its a BMW and looks like a tank.
dangerous brain
So does an aristo Goes like stink though. Was reading that as stock the car shifts out a 4.7 0-60 imagine what it would do with 600 horses Give you lot a run for your money
Bobbeh
Give you lot a run for your money Face it, you're going to end up with a 318 because you're so indecisive
dangerous brain
I'm decisive. Well I think I am... Aren't I, maybe, oh I don't know. Serious I don't ever see a day when I will buy a 318. Even back in the days I had the option of a 318 I bought an accord coupe so that just aint happenin now I can afford better. I wouldn't even have the beemer diesel I plumbed straight for the VW golf diesel straight away. I've posted this thread as I honestly didn't think that BM's were capable of big power ie 500 plus. It may be futuristic pie in the sky ideals but the fact that its available makes the car attractive to me. Likewise why the Volvo 850 and V70 R's appeal as the guys over on swedespeed push some amazing power out of them. I got my aristo mainly for its potential power not what it rolled onto my drive with. After owning a particularly fast car any car that wants to stand in its footsteps needs to be at least capable of standing next to it at some point. Miguel
You would be supprised by what goes on it the BM world, come to think of it the German car world full stop. Some big hitters out there , but boy the cost, you think modding a supra is bad . Try modding some of the Tank stuff. Some mad russian is allready trying to turbo the new m5, now that is something im keeping an eye on.
RobSheffield
but Bryan, you would lose the ability to indicate, suddenly take up ownership of the road, and become a tosser (sorry to the guy on here who has a 745!!)
Gazboy
I always thought the E39 had 400bhp standard. The latest one has 510bhp I believe, when it's running on all 10 The new one is savage, saw it give a 911TT a pasting from a standing start, wheelspin of the line, wheelspin though all of second, most of third, and a chirrup when he changed into 4th. When you compare it to the other machinery of the day, it was punching well above it's weight (had lots of that too!)
