Supragal
Hmmmm, I can't even pretend to know what you're talking about but I'm sure I could gcome up with something cool design wise if you let me know exactly what lights will be involved and to do what..... 400BHP
Originally posted by Darren Blake Well, I was thinking if you are going to take signals straight out if the ECU you might want to put something between the ECU and the LED - sort of like a relay - so that the LED circuit and the ECU gubbins remain seperated. However, just thinking about it a bit more, if you took the signal from the "valve end" (probably a higher current) then I reckon you could tap off about 20mA to drive the LED without messing anything up. Only thing is, IIRC the Supra has all its switches on the earth side of the circuit, so it may take some head scratching to hook the LED into the loom. Possibly a question for Mr. Betts. I think an LED will not draw enough current to worry about, all you need to do is identify the wire, and make sure it is actually a 12v actuation, Engine management, what I know of it is not normally earth triggered, its too costly to insulate things from earth only to then supply them with it, its also difficult to regulate current that way. You can use the ECU outputs if indeed they are positive triggers, because the triggers you are talking about are not for sensors, they are for non monitored valves (assumption) so I understand the ECU does not get a reading back from this, it will already know if the valve is open or not by way of if it has supplied it with actuation current. 400BHP
I have ordered the bits to facilitate the wiring and install of this 'mini project' which will be quite useful to show correct working of the sequential system, according to pete betts description of VSV's Does anyone have any pics of the EXACT positions of these 4 units?? Suprash
Chris, did you ever get anywhere with this ????
400BHP
Yes mate, i got it installed and working but I wasn't too impressed with the result, the LED's only came on to show that the VSV was actuated, not if there was any vacuum present, so all I really got was 4 pretty lights that went on and off. The only good 1 was the wastegate LED, that flickered like crazy when I gave the car some stick, I suppose the flickering was the car's attempt at bleeding off some boost. Ian C
Can you let us know the exact conditions the VSVs switch, that's be mega helpful -Ian
Barry
You can install a boot gauge on both turbo's. If you look on the compressor housing, you will see a small allan head bolt. Remove this and screw in a bolt with a nipple on it, then attach the hose from a boost gauge to this. This will only give you positive boost that the turbo is putting out, rather than what the engine is actally getting (ie: at the inlet manifold), and this can vary by a few psi. 400BHP
Sorry Ian, i don't quite understand, what is it you would like?
Ian C
Well, we always say that the sequential system starts prespooling at 3500 and kicks in at 4000 but it's be nice to know *exactly* which VSVs activate at what rpm or boost pressure, very handy for diagnosing sequential probs. -Ian
400BHP
I see. Well I tapped into the wiring loom under the passenger footplate, and the LED's (12v) illuminated when the VSV's were actuated. Although this isn't indicative if there is any vacuum or pressure behind them. I watched the LED's whilst driving (not too easy) anf the prespool VSV's seem to be actuated all the time, the wastegae one comes on in neutral or when you cane it and the exhause one, I can't remember! Ask HALO-INC, he has my car now and he may still have my box o tricks in it
Ian C
A missed opportunity to get definitive data, unless Halo sees this. Never mind. -Ian
