  • 2 months later...

i had a lot of problems with allsorts, trojans ,spyware,.. spoof spy sweepers,. fake repair software,.worms and more,. there was one thats realy rare that i got and took me days of patience to remove..eventualy i got my computer as clean as a virgin ;)

however my advice would be to use a compilation of software to be certain,

i use ( all free ) ( use google to find them )

Hjack this.

ewido security suite.

Avg free.

spybot search & destroy.

these will 100% sort you clean as a whistle .

Pig,

Get yourself Mozilla Firefox and use it instead of Internet Explorer, which will always be a security problem...

When you have Zone Alarm the only programs you should allow to access the Internet are Generic Host processor for Win 32 services, Firefox, Your email Client, and your Antivirus update.

Turn all cookies off if you can

On Firefox properties (in "Options") turn off the option that allows website to install software.

Don't buy anything, there's no need!

Make sure you have a decent anti-virus software (AVG from Grisoft will also pick up some spyware as well as any viruses).

Use a firewall, preferably hardware built in to your router. Use NAT if your router supports it, software firewalls aren't as necessary if you've got one on your router but the built in one with Windows XP SP2 is pretty good (Kerio Personal Firewall is another good free one though).

Use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer (that'll stop you from getting most spyware!). You can also install the "No Script" extension that blocks any active content, AdBlock Plus is another good extension, blocks any ad banners on web sites.

Download Microsoft Windows Defender it's pretty good as spyware detection programs go, and it's free! (AdAware is another pretty good one).

...and finally, I HATE zonealarm, it was too intrusive and popped up an error if you sneezed. Seriously, there are much better software firewalls out there than that.

Zone Alarm has stood the test of time (on my computer anyway for the last eight years)

By "error" I am thinking you are talking about the warning alerts?....

The alerts can be switched off and you won't even know ZA is working in the background...
