Rust on Rear Hatch

C5 SUP

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had the problem of rust on the rear hatch. I have two spots either side coming from the window seal. Just wondering if it is something that can be fixed at a bodyshop and how much hassle (£££) it may be.

Cheers

Chris

:Pling: This is a MKIV weak spot.:Pling: I have seen it on quite a few MKIVs. There is a cue but not once the rust has set in alas. I have not seen rust on the hatch of any MKIV where the seal is smooth.

On the cars I have seen, all have little injection stub under the edge of the rear window seal. These stubs over time assisted by vibration, eat through te paint allowing moisture access to the metal.

It is well worth check rear window seals for this, and if your car has them jusat remove them carefully with a very sharp blade. This reduces or removes the presure point on the paint.

A good body shop can fix this. £200 - £250 if you have metalic paint less for non metalics.

My 1996 White jap spec has this problem to at the lowest point of the rubber seal around the window of the hatch. Im dying to get this sorted but because it sits under the rubber seal it looks like a pig of a job to sort. It hasnt taken too much but as a loing owner it gets on my t*ts...

Has anyone sorted this on theirs and does it yield good results...
