Hmm never thought of that.

Its only a small micra, can't see anyone going through the hassle of cut and shut for that really.

Then again, its a runabout for my mum so dont really want it breaking in two.

Decsription says its come straight from insurance company, but thats just talk I guess.

Will look for signs of bodges, anything else?

Cat D is least damage. Cat C is usually more damage, and requires some kind examination (VSI test?!? :conf: ) before sale.

Cat A & B are breaker-only. Someone I know sells loads. How would you know if the airbags have been put back in properly or not though?

Guess it depends how cheap the car is whether it's worth bothering or not.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read your post properly. If it's just stolen/recovered, it might not have been damaged at all and *might* still be recorded as Cat-D.

I've had loads of cars on the register and never had any trouble with them. I've even bought both an MR2 and Celica that were both CatD stolen recovered. I just needed new locks and column etc etc.

The only way a stolen recovered car is any different to a normal car is in it's value imo.

you might have problems selling it on in the future if the new buyers do a HPI test ? but if its not worth much by then i doubt many people would bother with a hpi test ?

I was stupid enough to buy a 309 GTI (many many moons ago) without a hpi test then later on tried to part ex with a dealer for another car and he wouldn't touch it !

same here on a 306 convertible about 5 years back - the seller seemed so genuine, and when i called for an HPI they said they required VIN numer, which i didnt have!

ever since, i ALWAYS get an HPI!
