I know this game has been discussed over recent topics but i was just curious as to who's actually playing it from time to time?

Im on the 3rd level i think and have just had to come off of it again after 10 mins. I set myself a challenge and played it in the dark with surround sound. NOT a good idea! Such a good game but it is FAR too scary!

is this game REALLY that scary?

what sort of scare league are we talking here?

It is rated an 18 and if you've ever seen The Ring its horror twist is kinda based around the girl from that. Not a pretty sight i tell you!

It is very **ahem** atmospheric.

done the whole surround sound in the dark thing, it's a little disturbing, especially when the girl is giggling in the background walking behind you.

Indeed. Just went to climb down a ladder. I grabbed it, turned around and poistioned myself on the top rung, looked back up to where i was and saw her standing there looking at me!! That was enough for me. Saved and quit.

Scariest game ever is System Shock 2. Anyone who says different is wrong. Those scary test-lab monkeys and the zombies calling out "we are the new flesh" just as the lights fail and you have two rounds of ammo left. Never before have I wished that there was an option of putting the gun to my in-game head and ending it before they got to me. Brilliant.

I know the bit with the ladder, that scared the shite out of me, I really hate it when it's gone all quiet and then she laughs, you turn round and catch a glimpse of her running across in front of you, or she stood behind a window staring at you. Another bit that got me, was when you walk towards a lift in a large officed area that is covered in blood, and she appears on the balcony above you.

I can't believe a computer game can scare me this much.....

It's was OK, unbelievably linear and all very small and close-in. But it had it's fun moments with the slomo and stuff. You get used to the scary stuff eventually, except right at the end it then goes off the clock and shits you up again :D Hardly Half Life 2 for gameplay though.

System Shock 2 - play it through from start to end in one sitting in co-op mode with a mate :) It's *still* good. And the scariest thing in that was the robot midwife *shudder* "you're misssingggg alll the funnnnnn" (whirrclankwhirrclankwhirrclankwhirrclank)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just been playing FEAR this weekend (not idea how far in I am, 1 after HOT LZ)....

It's fab, haven't enjoyed a game this much in ages, totally addicted :) I fully admit to being a rubbish gamer, so the fact I can seemingly do well in it is great (Moderate difficulty)...I'm playing it like i do SWAT4....Gung ho ;) lol.

Only jumped once...small tunnel crouched down...was going forwards when she appeared and came at me...so I shot her :)

Lots of wierdness but compelling gaming, though no doubt it's not hard enough for uber gamers.

Slow-mo mode is good fun....as is nailing the fookers to the wall :D My best shot so far pinned a guy to the top of the wall by his throat :D And there he still hangs 3ft up :)

We could have a competition to see who can pin a bad guy up the best ;) :p

Nice one @ the pinning guy to the wall. I love that weapon!

I've taken a break from it until i have the balls to play it again. Its too dark, too quiet and too 'somethings gonna happen any minute now' at the moment for my liking! :help:

Yeah you have to take a break and erm remember to breathe! lol

I just want to play non stop! But with all the stress and concentration it gives you a headache! :)

But i want to be greedy and run at 1600 x 1200 with everything on high :D

I will just have to wait till the 7800 gtx becomes affordable

I would too....amd 64x2 4200+ 2gb ram + monster SLI'd GPU's...now that would run it well :)

/goes off to Dabs's website to drool over kit

You would be on first name terms with your electricity supplier though.

I normally look at Tomshardware.com they do good reviews of the latest cards agood guide to how games will run with different cards HERE
