Damn heater matrix - need some help quickly please!

Hi all,

Well wouldn't you know it - I buy my first Supra and four days later the matrix goes (must have been going beforehand, but couldn't tell).

I have a quote from Sussex Performance Cars in Horsham for 4 hours labour to replace it, plus about £240 for the part. Now...based on reading other threads about matrix replacement, 15-20 hours labour is more usual. SPC have never replaced a matrix before, and are just going by what their computer tells them. If the quote were a fixed quote, I'd be a happy man, but they will call me and charge me extra if it needs longer.

So, question is: does anyone think this is realistic? If it's not, I'm going to bypass the matrix for the time being until I can save up enough money to replace it.

Would appreciate some answers early on today (Monday) if possible, as I need to get back to SPC with an answer.

Many thanks all,

Dan

Hi Dan

Mine went about six months ago and it is a time consuming job as all the dash has to come out right back to the front panel so your car will be gutted. i did the job my self in fact i had to do it twice as i forgot the tighen a clip at the back of the matrix. since i was rushing to get out round town.

I think fours hours is a bit optimistic. The second time round when i did mine it took a full afternoon i think . i know they are mechanics but i doubt unless they have done it before it will be anywhere near that time. if your confident enough taking things apart and putting back together i would do the job yourself and save hundreds of pounds.

if you need any help get in touch.

Ask lovatt about heater matrix's. He did his own and he was not impressed by it.

Oh yeah! LMAO. I remember that story.

It's something that I'd be tempted to do myself just so I knew it was done CAREFULLY and not by some grease monkey trying to get the job done braking clips etc.

Either that or pay a member here who has had past experience.

Hiya m8 same thing happend to me, had the car 1 month and the matrix goes on me, alot of people said it was a bitch of a job, but all that had to be done was take the rocket cover off and fit the pipe, it was a little bit of a shit to get the clip on at the bottom thow. :thumbdown Good luck! :D

Thats if we'r talking about the same pipe, Is it the one that goes down behind the rocket??

What's the "rocket"? Being new to Supras, this doesn't mean anything to me! Toyota has quoted me 10 hrs, and £775. Am currently inclined to let SPC have a go and charge me the inevitable overtime!

Lol, thanks. In my case the entire matrix needs replacing, so I don't think fitting a pipe will fix it, but correct me if I'm wrong!
