Engine Mounts Replacement Help/Advice 1994 Auto TT

Gents,

Does anybody have any advice on how to get to the top bolts of the engine mounts?

I have a 1994 Auto TT RHD (UK) and I am in the process of replacing my engine mounts and trans mounts as I am getting some vibration. Looking at the mounts the bottom bolts are really easy to get to but the top ones look impossible. Any advice?

Any other advice on engine/trans mounts also appreciated. Pics because why not.

Thanks!

First off, are you 100% sure its engine mounts? Secondly its a bitch of a job, the intake side is fairly easy from the bottom, the turbo side requires creative tool making. I can pull an engine in 2 hours so personally thats what Id do lol

You can remove the brackets if you have many different 14mmm ring spanners (podger with pointy end) ratchets with like 72 teeth etc. They are super tight but once 'cracked' are almost finger tight.

So support the engine and the whole bracket with mount can be removed and separated off the car? From memory the turbo side is easier, the intake side i think needs the oil filter housing loosened (or perhaps just the filter removed, can't remember)?

The top nuts are really tight and very hard to access with in situ.

Thanks for the reply and advice swampy. I'm about ready to say screw it and pull the engine. I've never pulled a TT engine before. Any advice outside of using the TSRM?

If you intend on doing other jobs, and you have the means to remove it then you'll probably save lots of time that way. It's fiddly, frustrating and you'll need many different combinations of tools/sockets for almost each of the 8 engine mount nuts but it is doable if you don't have an engine hoist/lift etc.

I did mine when i had the intlet manifold off so that made that side easy, I think you would only need the upper half off

I did the exhaust side with alternator and maybe the cat off.

Personally there is a big difference between removing a few items and lifting the engine and removing the engine.
