Driving the auto

Got a 94 auto. It's the first auto I've ever had. I've no owners manual and I'm wondering exactly how the manual button next to the gearstick works? As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to do anything other than light up on the dial when pressed.

Manual mode allows you to hold the gear you select , so if you put it in 2nd it will pull away in second, other than auto mode which will then pull away in first and then second and stay in second, hope that makes sense.

It will usually start off in second, and will hold the lowest gear it can while driving. So if youre doing 90/100 it will hold it in 3rd

1 , 2 , D , D over drive.

this can be helpful as you can use engine breaking but driving manually is abit rubbish going up the gears as you cant better the change point but can hold gears for corners when in the track

So is it bad to move the shifter between L-2-D without the MANU button pressed?

Nope. M mode just makes it stay in the gear and doesn't use overdrive.

Manual mode will still go into 4th (or Overdrive) when you get to 130/140 and its at the redline in 3rd. But wont go into it while cruising.
