Thinking about a cheap 4 wheel drive second car

Can anyone suggest a cheap, reliable, 4 wheel drive car for when the weather turns nastier in winter up here in Scotland? Something around £2k would be great.

I've had a look on autotrader and pistonheads and Subarus can be picked up pretty cheap, although I dunno how reliable they would be at that price.

Any other suggestions?

:thanks:

its a big more than 2k but i cant recommend a Quattro strongly enough. Got enough under the bonnet not to leave you red faced and handles like a dream.

I use to have an original Audio Quattro when I was in the UK, great car for it's age and considering what I paid for it. Loads of fun in the snow as you could lock the front/rear or both diffs and get through pretty much anything, even helped tow a few rear wheel drive cars out when when I was out one particular day up on the NY Moors in heavy snow.

They have a bullet proof engine too, mine was still going strong with almost 200K miles on it.

I just recently sold my GT4 (ST185) to a garage.... it had been in the 'car sales' section of this BBS for about a month !

I would have taken about £2200 for it.

That would have been an ideal run around for winter... full time 4WD with around 200bhp.

I exchanged my old one for a new version (ST205) ;-)

Well it depends if you want image as well as 4wd.

A trooper is a great 4wd and very reliable and cheap to buy if you look for the older ones. My G reg is still going strong.

Remember any 4wd is useless if you have the wrong tyres on it.
