Yes we know that climate change/drout etc can affect migration, of course it can but to suggest it has played a part in the Syrian situation is just plain nuts imo. j_jza80 Posted November 23, 2015 Share Posted November 23, 2015 Climate change has an impact on poverty / famine, so his comments were correct in the sense that they can be contributory factors to desperation, and hence extremism. In this case, I think it's a bit of a stretch though. Is he suggesting climate change is making Northern European jihadis go to fight in Syria? I would say that a combination of people having their heads filled with religious nonsense from the the cradle, combined with high unemployment and increasing wealth inequality are more tangible factors.
