pedrosixfour
It is known as a 1.5JZ engine mate. There is plenty of them bolted into various makes & models. I can't give you anything on the pros and cons though I know some say it "flows better than a 2JZ", but if you google 1.5JZ it might help with making a decision. Justin Bieber
Supraforums has more information regarding this, it is worth a search there, I was looking into 1jz's a couple of weeks ago and someone over there did actually do a flow comparison between a 1jz and 2jz head, the 2jz flowed better. As for response I couldn't tell you unfortunately. Good luck with your search!
Chris Wilson
Both these Yamaha developed heads flow superbly, i would use whatever is in the best condition, a lot are in need of valve guides these days and there lie demons.

The plan was to overhaul the 1Jz head and just swap over when needed , VSS are 21 years old on mine now Still going strong so not touching anything Just doing my research if it is a good idea , rather than waiting till I need to do it One of the pros of the 1jz is response over the 2jz from what I am told
Chris Wilson
I mean the valve GUIDES not the stem seals, the stem seals need changing as a matter of course. Worn guides = poor dynamic compression and lower power out. Power is in the head, cams and valve sealing!
