foggy147 Posted May 26, 2015 Author Share Posted May 26, 2015 Back from the dead revival post! Been a while since any updates, but there has been some progress. Fuel tank filler neck fully cleaned up and painted. All rear subframe was sent for shotblasting, it has now been painted with POR15 rust prevention and stone chipped. Looking like new again. We also made the decision that there was just to much rust underneath the car to be able to do at our garage, so it has been trailored away to have this done professionally, so whilst the underneath of the car is getting sorted, we can use the extra space in the garage to get the body panels sorted so when we get the car back we can start putting the car back together and making it look more respectable. Also purchased a HEL braided clutch line to go with out HEL braided brake lines and Z32 brake upgrade. We've also sourced a ducktail spoiler, this will need to be modded slightly to fit flush with the car, this should really make the back end stand out when finished. foggy147 Posted June 27, 2015 Author Share Posted June 27, 2015 A few more updates, the car went to have all of the underside welding jobs done professionally, we just do not have the space or time to be able to do it so we just bit the bullet and booked it in. As you can see a lot of welding has been done, and now we should have a very good base shell to work with and build on. Footwell patch: The car back home again! - - - Updated - - - We managed to smash the rear bit lid glass when trying to patch up some rust...so decision was quickly made that we will be going fully polycarbonate windows all round bar the windscreen! Next stage is getting the whole rear sub frame assembly built back up, new brake lines to be ran underneath first and then start to get it put back together. foggy147 Posted August 8, 2015 Author Share Posted August 8, 2015 A small update, today consisted of plugging in all of the holes on the rear section of the car, as we are won't be running it with the original bumper we wanted to get it all smoothed in. foggy147 Posted August 22, 2015 Author Share Posted August 22, 2015 Quite a constructive day today, getting some of the niggly jobs nearly finished off. First of though we took delivery of the new wheels we will be running on the car, just some wide steel rims with a good dish on them, so we just had to get a small glimpse of what they will potentially look like on the car! We will be painting these bronze and obviously changing to black wheel nuts to make it blend in. We don't want black as the bottom side of the car is being painted black so we want to go with something to break it up to make the wheels 'pop' more. Anyway a picture of the wheels (you will have to use your imagination for these lol): Also Robert got round to getting the Diff welded up, as usual the diff in this was awkward and needed to be fully removed in order to get the welding gun in to really attack it, safe to say it's going nowhere now!! Built back up: Finally got round to cleaning out the light buckets, a good clean up and two coats of POR 15, look alot better now, and it all helps to just keep rust at bay that little bit longer: Smoothing down the body filler from last week on the rear end: Finally the rear subframe fully painted with 2 coats of POR15: We also got round to sanding back some repair work on the sideskirts, theres still a few small imperfections so we have gone over them again with bodyfiller, so next time they should be nice and flat and ready for painting. Over the next few weeks we hope to replace the o-rings on the fuel tank as we noticed there was a leak through the old ones, so replacing all of these, also we are getting some sub frame bushes manufactured, we just need to decide the material we will use on these. Once these are made we can get round to building this back up, getting the fuel tank mounted and getting the rear end back on some wheels. Slow progress but everytime we see a lilttle job, we just do it rather than just making do, should be all worth it in the end!! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

foggy147 Posted August 29, 2015 Author Share Posted August 29, 2015 Another update: Had some spare time this morning so we decided to get the wheels painted ready. A pearlescent bronze colour was chosen, as we will be doing the bottom half of the car satin black, the top half matte army green, so we wanted a contrasting colour to help them stand out more, but at the same time making it all blend in well together. Really chuffed with them, hard to tell in the pictures, but when the sun hits them they have a nice sparkle to them and they should look good against the black and green when the car is finished. foggy147 Posted September 5, 2015 Author Share Posted September 5, 2015 Another update, probably the best one for me so far, as I wasn't even there as I was out at a fun day whilst Andrew & Robert got stuck in. Finally something went back on the car as opposed to removing it. The o-rings we were waiting had turned up, so the fuel tank had new o-rings put in to stop any leaks, along with the walbro 255 fuel pump mounted back in properly: Started to get some new brake lines run though the car. We haven't had a chance to check the brake lines right through but if they are solid we will keep them. Side Skirts now nearly finished as well, just a bit more sanding down and these will be ready for being painted. The fuel tank is now nearly mounted back under the car, just need to get a bolt to be able to tighten the straps up around it and good to go. foggy147 Posted January 24, 2016 Author Share Posted January 24, 2016 Another update, feels like ages since the last one, due to christmas and the shite weather! The aim yesterday was to have the back end fully built back up and on the car, but a few little niggles (missing nuts, bolts) and also time, we didn't achieve it. But we did manage to get everything ready for next time round. First job was burning out the old rubber arm mounts, ready for the new polybushes to be slotted in: Can't beat red on black combo! Built up with the drive shaft mounts fitted ready: Then it was on to cleaning up the drive shafts, re-greasing and also fitting new CV boots...with the help of a coke bottle (engineering at it's finest): Before: After: The next up-date should literally be everything being put back on the car, with the newly welded up diff, along with the coilovers, newly built up brake callipers, dimpled disc etc, and I think that will be the first major mile stone for the car! foggy147 Posted April 10, 2016 Author Share Posted April 10, 2016 After a long delay, we have finally managed to get the back end (nearly) rebuilt. Everything was going smoothly until coming to fit the calipers and brakes. We have upgraded them to Z32 calipers which are apparently a straight swap, but for some reason the calipers do not fit flush over the disc without it pushing up against it. Has anyone else has this issue? Anyway we have at least now got it back to a proper rolling chassis, which has been a long time coming!!
