Crash Bandicoot
Last few bits to finish my build... My front wipers arent working, ive swapped the motor/mechanism out for another and thats not done anything My rev counter isnt working either, i have the glow style dials that switch from blue to green if that helps with diagnosing :/ Any ideas/help much appreciated! Guest Roger NE
Did you check if you have any voltage at the Wiper Motor before changing it? Presuming there ISN'T, first thing to obviously check is the Fuse. Regarding your Rev Counter . . . was it working fine and has suddenly stopped . . . or have you been playing about with the wiring? (or is it a completely different engine?)
David P
Need more info: If you've GTE'd your GE, then the wiper malfunction could be an incompatibility of looms, this can be fixed by redirecting 2 or 3 of the wiper wires. GE to GTE tacho mod here. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?303221-AEM-FIC-Fix-and-or-GE-Coil-Pack-Conversion
Crash Bandicoot
Roger NE: I had a friend/elextrician run over it before i changed it and it had power going to it, and he checked both sides of all the fuses... The rev counter and everything else was working before i swapped all the bits over from the other car... David p: i had an NA-t in my pre facelift hartop 5 speed, ive put engine and engine loom into my pre facelift aerotop from keron that started life as an auto but had a gte in before i bought it as a shell for all my bits to go into. Hope this helps guys Edited February 11, 2014 by Crash Bandicoot (see edit history)
David P
Looks like you have a GTE tacho and need a GE tacho or add a resistor. Still suspect loom incompatibillity for wipers.
Crash Bandicoot
The clocks were all working in the precioua car which was a GE tho

Crash Bandicoot
I dont understand what you mean... The cars running fine, its just the wipers and rev counter i dont understand hence why i put it on here for help :/ i dont see how im being contradicting... David P
You asked for help with your mongrel combo and I've given you highly probable reasons for why for both eventualities, along with links to threads and videos how to fix one of them it if it is. You need to take a look and confirm if you have N/A or TT clocks?
Guest Roger NE
Because the GE uses a Distributor and the GTE uses coil packs the signal to Rev Counter is different - that's why it's not working. As David has told you, you either need to fit a Rev Counter from a GTE, OR (if you're into electronics) modify your GE one by changing the resistors in it. Regarding your Wipers, again as David, it could be several things, but is probably a Loom incompatibilty, but to fix it will probably just mean cutting and splicing some wires. But Step 1 is to see whether you have any voltage at the Wiper Motor when you turn on the wiper switch (obviously with the ignition on too)
Crash Bandicoot
How do you tell the difference between them? It has the small squares for the auto lights but have been covered over... If that helps? Some of us are new ish to supras an not gurus hence why we ask for advice. Take it easy
David P
The N/A clocks will most likely have the resistor as shown in the links above and the TT clocks definitely won't, is the best I can do off the top of my head. I don't know their part numbers or ever looked to see if they're labelled, maybe another grumpuru knows another easier to spot difference? Crash Bandicoot
There is no resistor on my set of clocks... Thats a 1jz in the video, mines a 2jz :/
David P
1J or 2J engine makes no difference, the difference is GE (1 coil) GTE (6 coils) VVTI (3 coils) A GE engine has one coil and if your clocks are resistorless for GTE it'll need a resistor fitting or swapping for N/A clocks. Crash Bandicoot
The engine has been played with alot before i bought it, it is an NA with TT head and has had the distributor blanked so has indicidual coils i think... Can post a pic of the engine if needed...

David P
The plot thickens. That's a 2JZA80-GE (N/A) bottom-end, with 2JZA80-GE (N/A) head, 2JZA80-GTE (T.T.) rocker-covers, running GTE coil-packs with blanked-over distributor and FFIM unknown. Explained again here. Which means your GE (N/A) engine and GE (N/A) head are running GTE (T.T.) ignition multiple coil-packs and if your clocks have the GE (N/A) resistor 109 that I suspect it has, you need to bridge this as seen at 0.54 in the how-to modify your tacho Youtube video linked before.
