stevie_b
Unusual request possibly, but I want to trigger an ECU error code. Any one will do, but the easier to generate the better. I'll disregard any suggestions like "remove engine"! I've fitted a Pete Betts DSC unit and currently have the dashboard off. I'd rather not unsolder the DSC joints (to trigger code 42) because my soldering is not good, and I've (eventually) got joints that are strong! The reason, if anyone's interested: I think my red triangle warning light in the rev counter dial doesn't work when the engine management warning light (orange engine icon, RHS of dashboard) comes on. The bulb is fine, because the red triangle never fails to illuminate when I apply the handbrake. When I had error code 42, the orange light would come on and stay on, but the red triangle (after a couple of weeks of having the error) didn't. It flickers on when I drive over "rumble strips" in the road. TIA
Ian C
The flickering may be brake fluid related The warning light doesn't always come on, it depends on the problem. Try unplugging the MAP sensor while it's idling. -Ian
stevie_b
Thanks Ian. Do you know if the red warning triangle is supposed to come for a "code 42 - no.1 speed sensor" error? I suspect it is: it used to when I first had this problem, but after a few weeks, it just suddenly didn't come on anymore even when the orange engine light did. I'll try the MAP sensor thing anyway though! Steve
Ian C
Yeah, it does. I was gonna suggest that one as I knew it was a definite, but the speed sensor is on top of the gearbox Tricky to unplug compared to the MAP sensor! -Ian
carl0s
Would triggering the SRS airbag light give you an error code? Disconnect the ODO with the ignition on.
stevie_b
Ian: I should have pointed out earlier that I have an NA. Am I right in thinking that I don't have a MAP sensor? (I only found this out last night!) Carlos: my supra doesn't have airbags, so this may not work. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I do appreciate it! Ian C
Ah, that changes the rules a bit. But you do have a MAP sensor and it's mounted on the bulkhead just behind the intake manifold. You'll find a vac hose going to it if that helps, sorry no piccies. -Ian
