I used some engine degreaser (gunk) to clear the worst off and have autoglym metal polish to do the rest. I tried to find the autoglym engine degreaser at my local Halfrauds but none in stock. It still leaves a haze like you are having though so I am open to any ideas also. Maybe one of those dremels with the rotary polishing head would be good for some bits.
