Westcoaster
I've been volunteered to looking at a friends Ford Focus' head unit as is has a habit of cutting out all sound intermittently when driving along. Before I take the HU out of the dashboard, do these units have a code which has to be re-entered when the HU is removed? My friend says she can't find any reference to a code in the car documentation. Thanks in advance.
Lee P
Yeah will have a code, is it just the sound cutting out or the whole thing?
Westcoaster
Been told it's just the sound to all the speakers that's cutting out, but it's a description from a non technical woman, I have at this stage!
nevins
Common thing with the ford oem units are the security panel having bad connections which causes it to turn itself on and off. Then the more critical is the unit failing from leaking internals. Had some with a few dry joints though.
Lee P
This unit won't have the security panel, it's only the older ones. It's either going to be a fault with the hu or you have a faulty speaker. If any of the speakers or cables are shorting it shuts the audio down for protection. The way to find out is to take the unit out, unplug the connector. Remove the speaker plug from the main connector. Plug the main plug back in. Get another speaker and a bit of cable and connect it straight to the pins on the back of the radio and see if you get sound. If you don't it's the amp in the hu. Westcoaster
Pm me if you need a replacement Ford H/U i have a single disc one i can sell u? Thanks mate, I'll bear that in mind. After looking at it today, opening the drivers door shut the sound off! So I'm thinking it is chafed door speaker wires shorting out in the trunking between door and frame.
