my van has started to run a bit rough ,so thinking it might be a glow plug or two , they havnt been changed for a few years , now i find they are an absolute pig to get to and im looking at a mechanic taking 2-3 hours just to change the plugs at god knows how much .

as the thread title says its not like the germans to make a mistake like that:(

Off topic, but 'fantastic' German engineering requires the whole rear body work and rear side windows to be removed to change the spark plugs in my Smart Roadster Coupe! It adds 1 - 1 1/2 hours to the job!

I presume people have stripped these and put daft big bike engines in them like they have done with the old Smart cars? I think they look quite quirky myself, but know nowt about them.

Aye, it's been done, but it's an expensive route (£5000+) and there is no engine powered reverse gear!

The engines are 699 cc 3 cylinders and have 6 spark plugs. Mines is the standard 82 bhp, but it is relatively easy to change intercooler pipes and remap it to a reliable 115 bhp.

But why bother, when I have a TT Supra to play with! :eyebrows:
