supra_aero
Incredibly cheap - wow. I've been swayed to Samsung. I've had one 4 years (42" plasma with zero problems), my bro and mother now both have theirs with no problems. And quality is noticeably better than the new sony we got recently. Don't know if it helps, but my advice is go for a Samsung.

Thorin
The "S" range are Panasonic's budget range, but that's a very good price. I have a 50" Panasonic "G" series, it has built in Freesat HD (as well as Freeview) and memory card readers, but other than that I believe it's the same screen. Plasma is still superior to the best LCD's I've seen with regard to refresh, contrast, and deepness of blacks. I did a lot of research when buying mine, and the Panasonic plasma's seemed to be second best only to the Pioneer plasma's (which were around twice the price). AndrewOW
I know no one has heard of them outside of computing, but I have a Hannspree 42" LCD HD 1080p tv, and it's an incredible piece of kit, at only around £400. Great picture, good sound and looks very nice too. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/225692?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products

Tricky-Ricky
Apparently the LCD type that is meant to be the latest tech etc, is only the back light rather than full LCD screen, that going to be a while yet, so the difference is fluro tube v LCD, and AFAIK its just just brightness and longevity.
