I recall I've covered this before, thanks to someone handily providing before and after curves. This is an unmapped TTC conversion, i.e. just wired the VSVs open. Nic had much better results from actually mapping it, so did Tricky, and so Heckler who's car I actually mapped IIRC :D

Off topic, but in the same vein, that is why the six speed feels faster than the auto

 

I think you may be on to something there, it's about feel. I bet Toyota had the system absolutely seamless but thought it was a bit boring. Honda do exactly the same with the V-Tec. I can map a Honda engine to make more power with a seamless v-tec transition but customers hate it, they like the lumpy switch as it gives the impression of an acceleration hike rather than an actual one.
