Spectator safety at Drift What Ya Brung

I have to say that whilst in hindsight it was pretty obvious, it didn't initially occur to me how exposed we were as spectators. I think that possibly there should have been a bigger distance between the first and second fences.......why have this twin fence setup if the distance they are set up provides no real additional protection/safety? .......Looking back I think I assumed that the way it had been setup allowed for the usual spills........I suppose what i'm getting at is if there was no fencing at all then I would have been forced to assess the risk and tbh would probably have watched from behind the pits, the barrier being there kind of stops that thought process whilst in reality you are not much better off with the fences.
