CF bonnets - General consensus?

These posts sum up very nicely why I don't like the look of CF bonnets:

If you get one and leave it CF it makes your car look like you have just visited a scrap yard and are saving up for it to be sprayed.

Before CF body panels became fashionable, accident/rust repair was the only reason people drove around in cars with mismatched panels. I still associate the look with it.

Most of them serve the purpose to warn you there's an uninsured 18 year old *ick head behind you who has spent all his money on an ill fitting fake CF bonnet rather than on decent tyres and a brake service.

That's about the style. I don't know much about their functionality; there might be a small number of highly-modified cars (or cars built for a specific purpose, e.g. drag times) that noticeably benefit from having one. As for the majority, they're a bit like higher-pressure radiator caps: if you don't know why you need one, then you almost certainly don't need one. :)
