why do they rattle

 

As a matter of interest what actually causes the rattle?

I'm sure CW said it wasn't the flywheel itself that rattled, rather the gearbox as the lighter flywheel wasn't damping the noise as well as a full weight one

Why would they rattle? I thought they'd have to be tight and everything solid?

The weight of the flywheel is to provide kinetic energy to smooth out the 'pulsing' of the cylinders whilst at low revs.

 

Lightening the flywheel reduces this damping affect and sends a 'chatter' along the line.

 

At higher revs it sorts itself out.

I've read a few threads that states if you notch up the idling you can get rid of 90% of the rattling..

yer i herd that i may do it lol... rattles at the low revs aswell its not really an issue to me and the reponse it alot better

 

just people mite think it sould like a bag of shite lol
