tbourner
So he'd been having engine trouble for an hour, then oil leaked onto the windshield meaning they couldn't see, but it was only after the propeller fell off they decided to make an emergency landing!! JustGav
Our Fastbuild Kits We pioneered the concept of a Fastbuild kit over a decade ago. Since then it has become an industry buzzword, but nobody else has developed it to the extent of our latest kits. All major structures are installed for you in the wings, horizontal stabilizer, elevators, and vertical fin. But not the prop apparently..... caseys
WTF is an experimental plan doing flying out in civil airspace? surely there's testing grounds for these things?
Abz
Due to engine failure the plane made no noise so the guy would have never known it was coming as it was gliding. Do planes have horns of some sort? I know it may sound stupid but on a single engine aircraft if the only engine fails then you have a slient craft. Sorry, I know it isn't funny, but I found that comment hilarious.... 'Hoot to pass geese' I will burn in hell for some of these comments.... tbourner
At plane speeds a horn would be nearly useless though, even at a measly 300 odd mph! I guess he wasn't going anywhere near that fast, but still, I would imagine it was more likely the fact that the pilot couldn't see anything that meant he didn't avoid the poor bloke. I guess he wasn't going anywhere near that fast, but still, I would imagine it was more likely the fact that the pilot couldn't see anything that meant he didn't avoid the poor bloke. I can only assume due to being without an engine he was traveling a lot less at around 180 - 200mph, sound travels at the speed of 768mph so I would have thought it might have been useful, though like you said he was blinded by oil on his windscreen (quite strange, was he going in reverse? ). I think the bizarre circumstances required to have a plane flying at under 200mph at ground level with a blind pilot and copilot are too few to consider when designing plane safety devices. SupraStar 3000
a few months ago i remember reading in AFM an aviation magazine about a tucano training aircraft that lost its prop practicing for an airshow. The spinning propeller travelled 3 miles where it eventually smashed into the ground killing a guy sunbathing on a beach. Its not aircraft that are dangerous, its those dam beaches.
