T04R conversion

If one were to purchase the HKS T04R kit, would one have everything they need? or is the fitting kit a little lame?.

What would be optimum boost for road use, and what size of injector would one use?.

What would be a competitive price to purchase at?

Hi Chief,

Isn't the T04R a bit of a slow-spooling dynosaur (DYNO-saur, ho-ho) these days? I think there are much better choices for a 'street-able' car. Or were you just planning on drag racing and dyno-queening it up? I didn't that was your cup of tea.

(DISCLAIMER : The above is based on ZERO first hand knowledge, just what I've read)

As you know singles arn't my thing, but from internet reasearch T04r.com etc seems the manifold is the best and it pulls from pretty low. I am open minded on this one, so feel free to suggest. 650RWHP would be nice especially if I could get it to pull hard from about 3K ish. (pigs may fly i know lol)

Car's other mods would be FMIC, double decat, dragger, F con pro, 264 cams, twin spark, and whatever injector i would need.

Dyno sheets etc would be good to see with your recomendations.

You know people always say "Full boost by x rpm"... I find that daft because depending on what gear you are in, full boost comes in at different points.

Last night my T67 got on song at 5000rpm  But I was in first gear :D The other day I hit 1 bar of boost at 3300rpm :looney: But I was in 6th :p

Maybe a graph of rpm-vs-boost-vs-time would be useful...?

HKS use some BIG exhaust housings. These are pretty much bog stock Garrett items rebadged ( not necessarily a bad thing). The T04R will make similar power to a 67 GTQ but with more lag.

I find that daft

I wasn't referring to 1st and 2nd gear , not often i'd pull hard from low rpm on them so its not an issue. 3rd however I do care about, so I'd like to, if possible achieve a strong pull from the low 3's if any of the modern turbo's will spool that quick, and give 650ish rwhp at the same time. Maybe not but some of you guys ought to know.

I assume you dont mean 650rwhp on pump fuel! A genuine 650 rwbhp car would be undrivable at that level on the road. People seem to forget that. If you want a truly fast road car somewhere around a genuine 550 fwbhp is more realistic.

Anyway, you aren't going to get 650 rwhp with fast spool I am afraid.

No problem I still believe the bone stock BL kit with a T67 is probably the best street performace/£ compromise, whilst being able to make 650+ fwhp if pushed with proper fuel. The T61 will out spool this, and makes an awesome choice for a street racer.

I wasn't accusing you of being daft, that may have been read wrong :)

I've got some data from a 3rd gear run, hold on while I sort it out...

OK here is a 3rd gear run. My driving style means I ease in the throttle over a period of about 1 second so the turbo is already boosting by the time I hit WOT, hence the graph starting at .3bar. Also note the boost controller probably needs sorting out a bit better as boost buildup really tails off at 1bar. The flat spots on the graph are an artefact of the E-Manage's datalogging, not some misfire problem :)

However, all that aside, this shows you quite nicely what 3rd gear is like from

Pretty darn good, goes very nicely, thanks for that.

Are there T67 options or all they all the same? Cast vs Tubular manifold what do you guys think?

Whats the average cost of a T67 setup?

Average Install time by an experienced mechanic?

There are options on the T67. The base kit is the P trim. Price wise, you are looking £2650 for a full tubular with HKS wastegate.

Fitting, if you really steam in should be around the 2-3 full days.

We sell Arnout's cast Manifolds ( in stock), but dont have a complete kit ready for it yet.

P-Trim 67 spools faster but gives away 50RWHP to the GTQ which obviously spools slower. There is a DBB option which in GTQ form might well spool as fast as the P-trim standard one, but don't quote me on that.

Cast or tubi doesn't really matter IMO. You're not looking for the last nth in performance like a race car. But I'd go for a Tubi if I could, just because. Arnout's cast manifold though is a very viable option.

Ian's setup is a P-Trim with Tubi on a 3" exhaust. You can get a 4" option which might help the spool.

Thanks Alex, I am getting the picture slowly. The T04Z you mentioned, do you know anyone who has one fitted, I am just trying to get it right so I dont buy a kit, fit it and then start the old "if only i had gone for".............. DBB sounds good, but I am curious about any titanium internals, can only be good me thinks. All info post it here :-)

So all this T61 T67 etc.. What are the size of the stock ones?

Cheif, is the TO4Z a T67 or bigger?

What about just putting bigger turbos on the existing SEQ setup?

From reading this.. I think the best of both worlds so far is the T67 DBB GTQ?

Markie, I aint the one to ask on singles. These guys replying are that dept.

Sequential........HKS did make an upgrade kit but lost interest. If you search the forums you'll see one of these kits installed. Apparantly only one in the UK somewhere that was done by Tdi. Rumour has it most kit buyers went for the big GT twins as the difference in money wasn't that big and the GT twins gave a load more power. Well thats my info on it, maybe someone knows better. Phone Tdi and speak to Nathan he will know if anyone does.

Ian ,

How come you are only letting her top out at 1 bar ? Im hoping to run mine at 1.3 - 1.4 ?
