UK alarm

Tried to swap the car battery yesterday, my ears are still ringing.

The stupid alarm thought the car was being stolen, although it wasn't even locked.

I couldn't stop it no matter what, pressing one, two or both buttons made no difference. It immobilised the vehicle as well, what a stupid to do on an unlocked car.

 

Anyone know how to avoid this in the future?

If the driver's door is left open, does it behave any differently?

Yeah the UK alarm is very temremental when the terminals are disconnected.

My battery died on me last winter and it screwed the alarm good and proper... I had to get a new CAT system installed !!

 

There is a castle key which turns off the activation of the siren (I think... I'm trying to remember from last year). If you turn it to the off position the alarm should stop. But this still doesn't de-activate the imobiliser.

Out of interest John did the problem resolve itself once the new battery was fitted?

 

My current battery isn't holding charge for more than 3 days of sitting doing nothing so it's time for a new one, I just don't have the castle key for the alarm and no real desire to "do an AJI" and buy a new alarm right now :)

when i swapped my battery over, even with the castle key switchin the alarm off, the damn thing was still goin off! had to put up with it and keep hitting the fob button, dunno how many times i had to press it but it eventually went off! weren't pleasant though!

It stopped on it's own eventually, the castle key is important to stop it making a racket.

 

Next time I need to disconnect the battery I'll have the door open first, maybe that helps it think I'm not a thief. The UK alarm kinda arms itself once the door closes.

I took the plunge and got a battery today. I've just fitted it and think I might have a way to do it with no noise thanks to JohnA's theory above :)

 

Bonnet up (obviously) so alarm sensor there is up, then I left the passenger door ajar with the alarm off. Disconnected battery and no noise, connected new one up and activated alarm to make sure it went off to warn me that the door was open - it went off as expected. Closed door and bonnet and armed alarm... no noise :)

 

Job done.

 

Local battery specialist I normally use was closed so I went for the Halfords option, bit more expensive but I'd just got used to spending money after an oil change, new track rod ends and brake pads so my usual Yorkshireness was in mess :)

When the bumper comes off for some reason, the Dildii will get the sack. They're ridiculous, and stick out as well, so they'll get damaged sooner or later.

 

I'm in the minority that likes them :)

 

J-Specs and de-dildo'd UKs just look wrong in my eyes but I can appreciate why they might not appeal to everyone... for me a Supra is naked without a bonnet scoop, dildos and the wing

The wing has always been something I couldn't decide if it's a garish addon or an acceptable engineering choice.

Seeing how stable the car is at over 140, I have to say that the front spoiler and the wing really do work.

 

The bonnet scoop is not garish, rather understated and not MadMax material. Fully functional, I cannot imagine a proper Supra without it.

 

The dildos I find plainly daft, sorry... :nyah:

Yeah me too, they're more a pain in the ass (Oooo matron!) than use. Sucks even more when someone drives into one and it splits the paint on your bumper :cry: They were obvious tacked on at the last minute, they're not the best looking things to complement the car. The Bonnet scoop deffo is :thumbs:

 

The Aero kit is on there for a reason tho ;)

Don't forget that's for the UK though, I think the J-Spec has smaller terminals or something odd like that?
i changed over from small terminal battery to a uk spec small bettery with big terminals and new battery clamps. went on fine. my mate in a uk spec had one of his dildos snapped off when someone walked past front of his car and caught it with there leg.

I wonder if the washer jets from something like a Lexus would fit on ok, they don't protrude quite so much, although that might affect their ability to wash the headlamps.

 

By the way, does anyone ever use them, my car never gets that dirty. :)
