kslb
I just thought I would be cheeky and use you guys and girls for a bit of market research. I run a boarding kennels and charge £9.50 a night (not per day) this is fixed no matter how large or small your dog and there is never any additional charges and covers feed, bedding and heating and 2 walks a day. We are also the only kennels in our area that does not restrict drop off and collection times, we are open 12hrs a day 7 days a week. I just wondered how this compares to kennels in your area? We have commited to freezing our rates this year due to the financial climate but will need to review them next April. Thanks in advance for your help and feel free to click on the link in my signature to have a look at our kennels.
probrox
My dog is classed as a large dog (German Shepherd) at the kennels I use, and they charge £8.50 + VAT per day (or part day). Fairly restricted opening times as well, I think they are only ope 4pm-6pm on Sundays.

Before I started the kennels it was always the part day charges that p*ssed me off as when boarding my four dogs at kennels it made a huge difference to a one night trip away. For example 4 dogs in our kennels for one night is £38 and the same in yours would be £68 + VAT and alot of our business is one nighters due to the industry up here. Maybe its something I will have to consider but I hope not.
Holden1989
£8.50 Small Dog and £12.50 Large Dog at the kennels i used to work at, the whole place was a shambles, the dogs never got walked, they got screamed at by the phycotic owners daughter, never fussed and never got any attention (apart from when i was there) Put me off kennels for life unfortunatly, think i need to do some work experience at a nice kennels to see what things are like nowadays
Chris Wilson
I'll ask around, we have never kennelled our dogs away from home, so I am afraid I have no idea at all, but we have friends that holiday regularly and use local kennels.
kslb
Put me off kennels for life unfortunatly, think i need to do some work experience at a nice kennels to see what things are like nowadays If you were local I would suggest here, I spend most of the day walking dogs and love every minute of it, for me walking the dogs and making a fuss of them is what makes the rest of the job worth it! I'll ask around, we have never kennelled our dogs away from home, so I am afraid I have no idea at all, but we have friends that holiday regularly and use local kennels. Thanks Chris. Gordon F
£11.16 a day and £5.58 a half day. Our two dogs share a kennel but last time they were in we were charged the full rate for both dogs. Is this normal in the kennel world? Opening times are restricted as well - especially on Sundays.

Is this normal in the kennel world? Opening times are restricted as well - especially on Sundays. I would say not normal but not unheard of. We do not do discounts for dogs sharing either as one of our objectives was to simplify the complicated pricing strategy the majority of kennels seem to use. To that end we decided to go the route of a set rate per dog per night with no exceptions or discounts. We thought that by doing this we took away the element of confusion and every customer would know exactly what their bill would be. we only take payment on collection, no deposits and none of the admin that goes with deposits. If we have a customer that does not show up and does not get in touch to provide a reason for a no show we do not charge them we simply mark their card. If this happens twice we do not accept their custom again. To date we have found this pricing strategy on the whole to be successfull and completely different to what other kennels seem to offer. I would appreciate peoples view on this strategy.

kslb
£10.50 per day per dog with food (Butchers) and insurance included. Insurance is a legal requirement so should not be promoted as an extra. It is looking like we will go to £10.50 a night next year, still cheaper overall so not to bad I suppose. Thanks.
edge
The kennels we use charge us £17.10p for our 2 dogs (dobermans) per day inclusive of food etc. We supply bedding through choice but they will supply free if needed. If we pick the dogs up before 11am they dont charge us for the day. I live in the bristol area. Also i must add that they share a kennel during the day when not out for walkies but are kept seperate when they goto bed like they we do at home. bigcol
cheapest round here £5.50 per day each (for our 3) but they are a bit naff, just found a really great one who will put my 3 together in a 50ft square kennel and walk them 3 times a day for £21 a day (for all 3) but if we are away over 3 nights we go to a place called the chummery where they stay in someones house (obviously dog lovers) in the local are and that costs £12 per dog per day but its worth it as they are in contact with humans 24/7 rather than kennels, that includes food
Havard
Ours is £7.50 per day including food, bedding, heating, walks and if the dog gets a bit niffy they will also bath them before they come home. They also ask what type of food your dog has and will get that for them Vicki x
Chris Wilson
About 8.50 to 10.50 a day seems to be what people are spending around here. HTH.
