far
I'm currently getting dl @ 408 kbps and Upload @ 365 kbps Can someone with Sky Broadband do an online test and tell me what they are getting? http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ Should I phone Sky and tell them to do er.... something or is this the best I can achieve? Any 'tips' to speed it up?
Homer
According to that site I get a 2384 kbps dl and 718 kbps upload. http://www.speedtest.net/ gave a better result, but I still get 20000+ kbps dl rate on connections that can deliver high end rates. Nearly all test sites are fundamentally flawed as they cannot deliver the data fast enough for most connections these days when using an ISP proxy. You really need to test a Sky internal file download to see if your local connection is the issue or if there is a problem with the wider Sky network. Nearly always it is the bandwidth via your ISP's proxy thats the bottleneck. Call your ISP with a complaint and see what they find (bet they don't find a problem )
far
feck dude - and you are with sky? thats a huge difference! So am I correct in assuming that bandwidth could be geographically dependent?
RobUK
I am on Sky.... Getting 5744 & 378.... How long have you had Sky BB? When i first installed it I also got some shocking figures.... but after about 4-5 days it settled down and have been getting reasonable figures ever since.... far
I have had it for over a year, this sucks i'm going to have to call them in the morning...if I am on a wifi connection should it be significantly slower?
RobUK
have you tried replacing filters etc..... they will go through this proceedure.... other telecoms equipment you have on the line (could) have an effect...... if they suspect your router is dead and want to charge you for a new one let me know.... they sent me 2..... one is still shrink wrapped in it's box..... Homer
feck dude - and you are with sky? thats a huge difference! Nope, ex-NTL cable connection so have very high bandwidth (soon to be upgraded to 50Mb ) I have had it for over a year, this sucks i'm going to have to call them in the morning...if I am on a wifi connection should it be significantly slower? They will ask you to connect using a hard wire cable to your Sky modem, but it will make little difference unless it's not configured correctly. Homer
Just as an example of the site load problem, just tried your site again and got a 8100 kps download and from speedtest 21120 kps. It's not likely to be a local issue, but a problem with the site you're using that can't handle the speed of your connection. A really good check of your true speed is to use a torrent that has a seriously high number of seeds and a very low number of leechers (10:1 or better). It'll max your download capacity in a few seconds.

creative
ive been onto them this week fella. I'm guessing you have bt line rental and on sky broadband connect? I was getting 88kbps! my router settings are showing 7.8Mb. Tbh sky have been very useful and they think it has something to do with BT throttling the lines.....something to do with the throughput that BT does. Its been put through and escalated to a serious problem at sky's end so hopefully I will have a reply in 24 hours
MrRalphMan
I have the Sky Max Package (up to 16Mb) and connect around the 7 - 9 Mb range. Speeds are pretty good and on a Um... popular torrent it will max out the connection, although I do throttle it to about .5 MBs to allow normal browsing while it runs. Upload has increased to 448 just like mine says I'm getting 7.8Mb when every speedtest I have run is coming in at around 290kbps now. these are both web based and software based that I have. do a speed test and then see what you are getting.
