Please HELP - Death of no.2?

Hi Chaps

Please can you help diagnose this prob, it sounds to me as if my Turbo no.2 may be on its way out, however the symptoms are:

Only boosts to 0.5/6 bar at WOT

After kickdown and as no.2 comes into play it, spluttered/coughed and let out a small cloud of black smoke, revs seemed to rise but lack of power.

Turbo no.1 seems OK

UK spec auto with full de-cat and blitz Nur spec (85k miles)

Once I saw the smoke I drove slowly home, no smoke on way back but I did'nt use no.2

I would be grateful of any feedback.

Many thanks

Rich

Great replies!

Thanks Paul for advice, I may well drop in to see Paul.

Bobbeh - no death wine, have checked pipes, but theres so damn many, I must admit I have fitted a nice shiny I/C pipe set, the one from the throttle body and one that goes to the turbo pipework, so may have disturbed/knocked something but I have checked for anything obvious, I think that is just coincidence?

Any more ideas?

Thanks again

Rich

I was just about to say the same as Chris.

When I had my EGT fitted, the guy forgot to tighten one of the rubber joints on my hardpipes when refitting, at a certain RPM it used to cough and splutter. Found the joint, tightened it, and no problems. It used to show some boost, but not full power, as when 2nd came in, air escaped out of the joint.

Right, I have checked all the pipes and all seem OK the only thing I found is that one of jubliee clips around the hose from the throttle body was ever so slighty loose, I don't suppose this could be it? (Hose is perfectly in place).

Any other ideas? I really don't want the expense of buying new turbos!

Ta

Rich
