strange rattle/loud tick/tap

the light goes off straight away as you can see in the video, i didint think it sounded like it aswel, could the autobox make this sort of noise maybe, but how about when ive put it back in to park? reason i ask this is becasue as i said in the earlier post i can jump in the car and start up, sit there for as long as i want and it does not do this noise, it only does this noise under load/select drive and go. i still think its exhaust gaskets around the manifold/turbo.

It should be pretty easy to diagnose a exhaust leak around the mani/turbo. It would be a "chuffing" noise and you should be able to hear it from under the bonnet.

It's a tricky one to call from hearing the clips. If it was a timing/alternator/AC pulley, it should be more consistent and wouldn't necessarily go away once it's warm, but it might still be worth look at them to eliminate them.

You NEED to get under it and have a look matey.

Just hope my first suspicion doesn't come to light. :(

i have that same noise it goes away fairly quickly, now the thing i thought it was was something to do with the turbo having some play in it and as it gets hotter the metal is expanding so taking the play away what sort of revs does it come in at? if its 2000rpm the thats about when your turbo starts to spin? (i think)

spot on mate, does start making that noise @ about 2000-2500rpm, youve got me thinking now, i wonder if it could be the turbos:( it is around that mileage 83000miles

Mine oddly enough has started to make the same kind of sound.

To me, its like exaggerated turbo flutter.

I doubt its the Turbo's. I hardly drive mine, and it has a little over 40k on the clock. So would be surprised if it was.

Sometimes i dont even hear mine all the time. Well not yet anyway.

I have the same sound, can only hear it inside the car withj the passenger window down, i read some noise points a while back, which seemed to point to injectors. My noise starts after 2k also, however its not always present at start up or after a run???

Sounds like a direct drive from the engine. See if the cooling fan is rubbing anything and then check for loose or broken eng mount, which can let the eng move around with torque when accelerating. Have someone watching when you give it the juice.

Other than that maybe an idler pulley brg on the front, or loose/torn drive belt.

Had a very similar noises that I believed was coming from the engine and would disappear once the engine was kinda warm... mine turned out to be the catalytic converter (2nd one) in the exhaust, which was breaking down internally and parts were "vibrating" when cold but when hot (fully expanded) they could not then vibrate.

Easy fix... removed the damn thing with a straight through pipe... viola noise gone.
