carl0s
They're talking about a new version of this noise thing, that emits a slightly lower pitch noise so that everyone can hear it. They played it on the radio briefly and it sounds exactly like tinnitus. It's the thing that your local co-op store puts outside to stop yoofs hanging around. I think it's pretty well known that tinnitus can send some people into an anxious state of panic. That can't be good then, can it?

Multics
It's totally out of order, it's a nuisance, it violates everybody's right to use the public space without being annoyed. Why would other people have to suffer because a minority cause (or might even not cause) trouble? And then again, it won't solve anything it will just relocate it. These devices and practices should be banned.
ivan
What was wrong with the high pitched one? At least it was targeted at the cause of the problem rather than at everyone.

Well, I am all for sorting out gangs of yoofs, but having heard the new audible-to-all noise, and knowing what tinnitus can be like, I find it a touch worrying. Precisely, but I think the point is that they've decided that grown-ups can be pratts too.
michael
Humans are idiots, tag them all and put dumbass sensors in, if you are antisocial a small explosive goes off. Initially the tags are on limbs, after 4 you get one around your neck.

Soaruss
I suffer from tinnitus, it can be quite annoying at times but am learning to block it out. Dont see why everyone should have to pay though for a group of uncouths.

Strangely enough I came up with a similar idea but with an inplant that can be tracked via GPS
Supra Size Me
As a fellow long term tinnitus sufferer shall we get a gang together to hang outside shops and cause some nuisance ? won't affect us as will be masked by the ringing already there mines at about 7.5 KHz, anyone else know their ring tunes ? out of curiosity. Only hassles I have are sleeping on occasion (usually put TV on in background) and not being able to hear conversations in pubs etc with background noise. Caused by heavy metal, commercial diving and zzr1100's do I regret it ? not for a F***ING SECOND !

I have just self diagnosed myself as i always hear this F***ING noise in my head when sleeping and generally when there is little noise around me Yes it was self diagnosed, but you can go to the docs with it and they'll send you off for an auditory test if you want it confirmed but from what you've just said sounds like it's "welcome to the club" theres no real cure for it either afaik so only advice I can give is to ignore it... sorry can't be more help than that. monsween
yea i have just been trying to ignore it. Anything to try and put up with it? ive had it for around 2-3 years now i think I knew there was no cure just had to put up with it. May goto the docs and get properly tested. Supra Size Me
some e-numbers smoking drinking and basically anything else thats fun to eat/drink can increase the volume of tinnitus in some people, i have found that avoiding fizzy drinks helps like cherry/orangeade, coke seems fine though. Have a nosey online at different sites as there's the odd bit of good advice out there but nothing that will wondercure it that i've seen so far. carl0s
Well, mine is a bit more like just "that annoying really quiet noise in my head whenever everything goes quiet", but it sort of grows sometimes and makes me feel like I'm going on one. Sometimes it comes on louder but that usually fades out just as quick as it appeared. In my case it's caused by stress apparently rather than a physical ear problem. It's amazing to think I am stressed, sitting here browsing youtube and smoking

Doesn't the Army cadet rifle only fire single shot:innocent: it has no gas parts, therefore cant reload via the gas blow back, it has to be manually re-cocked after every shot;) richie
