Winston Wolf
Didn't want to hijack mikeyb10supra thread as it relates to tts but this subject has been on my agenda and i'm loking for feedback on the pros and any cons of this process. I am mindful of the mot requirement and hastle of replacing these with cats for road use but can anyone share their findings on engine characteristics or recomendations? Is it a worthwhile mod to do both or just one etc??? I'm all ears........

lust2luv
Pros: Much louder Saves weight Feels a little more responsive Cons: Probable MOT failure (without temporary replacement of 1) Much louder (if you get headaches easily, have bitchy neighbours or want to do trackdays) Costs a couple of hundred pounds General consenus seems to be that replacing just one is fairly pointless on an NA. JustGav
I know of a few NA's that have past without the cats.. it is the TT's that are definitely going to fail. Needless say I've gone single decat at the mo and it is f-ing loud...and damn great *Grin*
lust2luv
I tried putting mine thru with double-decat and it passed all tests bar one (CO2 at idle IIRC). So it's touch and go.
AeroMatt
I've taken off both my cats and performance wise the difference it makes isn't really noticeable. It seems to have a bit more go right up the rev range, but nothing major. With the rear section replaced as well it seems to make a bit more difference. This is all going on how the car feels to me as I haven't had it dyno'd. Regarding the MOT, my local place put it up for a non cat test which it sailed through. I can't remember the figures but the examiner said it would have easily passed the cat test anyway. Oh and yes its quite loud!
Chris Wilson
It's about the only mod, without spending mega money, for the N/A Supra that gives any real power increase. I got about a 12 BHP rise on the one I tested. You MUST remove both cats, and to be SURE of an MOT pass just refit the second cat, which entails four easily accessible bolts. 15 minutes max on a ramp. 20 quids worth at an exhaust emporium, once a year. Ideally use the de cat pipes with a free flowing cat back exhaust system. Caveat. I sell N/A de cat pipes in stainless steel with the correct expansion section in the front dual pipe. Hope this helps. They DO give more power and economy but with the N/A it is never going to be like de catting a turbo engine.
