Domain Hosting - with email

Hi guys, looking for some advice here.

I have a domain which I want hosting, I'm not looking for much in terms of webspace (to be honest at the moment anything more than a single page is too much) I will want at least 2 pop email addresses on my domain though, and I'm not looking to spend a huge amount.

My domain will be lapsing shortly so I will want to transfer / renew it and host it quickly, my current hosts will not be receiving my custom at renewal time. Lets just say that I've not had email service for the last 10 days.

suggestions guys. :search:

Where's Lewis when you need him

....I have always respected your bravery, even more so now :D

If I recall at the time you couldn't match their offerings for the price. ;)

I haven't had any issues with them, but I know people who have. But then that's the same for every hosting provider I'm sure.

For what you get for the price, I think it's hard to beat them personally. However if you only need a minimal amount of basic hosting space without anything fancy like databases, PHP, etc. etc. then I'd just pick whoever can provide you that the cheapest.

Fairly possible - cheap hosting is easy - good hosting isn't, combining the two is impossible as strong, stable hardware is expensive unless you are fasthosts: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/15/fasthosts_dedicated_snafu/), as is redundancy and good peering.

In all honesty, any customer should judge a company on their own experience, you getting a good service from fasthosts. Personally, whilst their services may be excellent, I'd be more worried about them giving away my credit card details and their services being hacked regularly:

Still, at least they are cheap eh? ;)

Avoid them, their name is some sort of highly amusing joke.. they are far from fast in any respect. I know of many people who have used them, ive moved most of their sites for them onto other hosts. A forum i used to run was hacked on them, they blamed me for it saying i must have lax security - only to send an email out to all their customers a week later saying they had been hacked and lots of passwords stollen!! Outages were daily...

Im currently using heartinternet.co.uk for a few sites and havent had one site outage since i moved (about a year ago) compared to daily with FH.

...and that's what I'm getting at. Everyone loves to slate a company, but the same can be said for most. I used to use heartinternet, had no end of outages and issues with them, and don't have a kind word to say about the customer support amoeba who work there. They seemed very amateurish. But you pays your money you takes your choice.

Absolutely, service-wise everyone will have an opinion and normally it will be different to the next person. I regularly do recommend other hosts depending on requirements, ultimately I want to serve customers where my company is the best for what they want and this isn't always the case. I would never recommend fasthosts based on security concerns about their internal processes and their hardware.

I genuinely mean it when I say that if you are happy then you are best where you are, if you move, you might struggle to find somewhere where you are as happy as you are now and again, I would say that to anyone.

If you do find that you're unhappy, you know I would be more than happy to provide hosting to you if we fit your bill.:)

Lewis you have PM - I asked Hostonce a simple question about the process of moving to another host if I decided this was what I wanted to do, they read this as a request to cancel and have decided to refund me my renewal fee and put a stop on my account.

I'm pretty annoyed but need a new host pretty sharpish, annoyingly they seem to own my domain so I'm not sure how that will work - it's registered with them until November which is when my renewal was due.

"Registration status:

Registered until renewal date"

What happens to it then?
