juanchan
by the way if you had 2k for engine mods what would you do?? I'd replace all my suspension arms/bushes, get a full geo done, get rid of my wheels, replace my rear disks and pads, polish it til my arm falls off, open beer, sit in sun and enjoy the view As Havard on here once said, "Who needs to go fast? I'm too busy looking good!" Since your car is BPU already, you're limited in terms of pushing for more power on the stock system as it is. If you then think of going single, £2k will barely scratch the surface of a properly done job. The only thing I can think of is: How do you find the auto? If you'd prefer to go manual, an extra grand will get you a 6 speed conversion from some of the traders on here.
Nic
First of all - check the tyre's are of a high quality brand and have good tread depth. If they are looking old or worn swap them out Next, get the brakes checked and ensure the discs are not worn and a suitably good quality pad is installed. If not done in the last couple of years flush the fluid and replace with Motul 5.1 Next, get the suspension arms, drop links, tie rod ends and damper checked for play or leakage. Replace as needed Next, get a full laser allignment done from a reputable specialist. Next, make sure the car is fully serviced - all fluids are replaced in the last 3 years, the rad cap is looking new, the fuel filter changed recently, same with air filter, oil, oil filter, etc, etc Very good advice. Welcome to the club Terry. Your car is at a stage power wise, where unless you are prepared to spend a LOT more than £2000, you are only going to see modest hp gains. There are some things you can do eg. fit bigger duration cams and fit either a piggyback or standalone ECU, which will give you a bit of extra power, but that's about it. The first modification though I'd make, would be to fit the larger 2 pot OEM rear brakes. You currently have the larger 4 pot front brakes and the smaller 1 pot rear brakes, so the front/rear brake bias is not correct. See pics here of the larger 2 pot rear calipers http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=98436 Edited August 2, 2008 by Nic (see edit history)

Hi I will definatly take your advice on craking open a beer maybe ill take my wheels of too?? polishing ill have to see how my girlfriend is feeling lol As i said i dont really have a budget just dont want to start running before i can walk hence the 2 k budget I love the idea of it being manual as im really a driver of cars and love the gear change which im already missing from when i had the porsche what would be a realistic budget for a manual conversion and a big single turbo and what could i expect in terms of power thanks Terry
Homer
what would be a realistic budget for a manual conversion and a big single turbo and what could i expect in terms of power thanks Terry Proper manual conversion = ~£2k dependant on how good you are at getting bargains Small single = £8k as a start, but thats a minimum, keep a good few £k spare just in case
Guest Fusion
Excellent, sorry if I was a little judgemental, but we get a heck of a lot of dreamers put up on here, pretty much all of which asked the same questions as you (but with far worse grammar ) and then disappear in a few weeks or flog the car in a few months. I'm now a little excited to hear more if you really do have money to spend It's a really good car to start with and has some decent mods, but to go to the "next stage" in terms of outright power will take massive investment (single turbo) What are you aims for the car - high 1/4's, track car, show piece, etc... ? With the current spec there's not a lot you could do with £2k to make any real difference to the outright power side of things. Hi no worries there im quite sure you do get a lot of dreamers that really havent got a clue the come on here with timewasting rubbish As i said before im defintaly not a chav i dont live with my mum and dont like burberry and im not really interested in covering my nice well kept car in plastic with everysingle supplier grafixed on the side door im looking for something that is a well competent street legal car that delivers performance and that alone... a big bhp beast... a ferrari muncher but understated a wolf in sheeps clothing As i said in my previous post 1 unfortunatly or fortunatly depending on how you see it work within this industry as well as corporate live and dance music industries. so to have a super supra an uber machine fulfills both my lust as an aging petrolhead but also allows me to, through the car, build a presence through marketing to again build future work in these markets so its my little project a kind of mid life crisis before i lose all my hair and get really fat At least thats what my girlfriend say anyway glad you didnt shoot me done in flames on my first post and i apologise if i might of sounded a bit bold ...maybe even arrogant..or naive in my first post i just speak my mind and get straight to the agenda this is just me so please just get used to it anyway please any suggestions greatly appreciated but more importantly than that i need someone i can take car to to get crankshaft seal done any one in essex that can help me?? thanks Terry
Nic
If you are prepared to spend the money doing a proper conversion, I would definitely recommend a single turbo install. Have a look in my garage HERE as an example. Also have a look around the other member cars in the garage HERE to get a better understanding of common modifications. Just to introduce myself, I am a trader on the forum (see my trade section HERE), if I can help with any advice, recommendations, parts, etc. drop me a pm. Thanks for advice Danny service is already on the cards already just waiting for someone on hear to give me a good contact to take car to or to recommend a performance car service centre in london or essex as ive heard taking modded supras to toyota is not a good idea Brakes are also high on the priority list too but again suggestions would be appreciated as to what to go for re lighting i have something planned using arcitectual led strips that we usually put in nightclub bar install projects that create a totally unique effect they will be used internally and maybe externally found this link following advice re single turbos just wondering if its any good what will it do http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HKS-TO4Z-T04Z-Single-Turbo-Kit-Toyota-Supra-JZA80-T51R_W0QQitemZ290114604524QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290114604524&_trkparms=72%3A985%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318 thanks Terry

Homer
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HKS-TO4Z-T04Z-Single-Turbo-Kit-Toyota-Supra-JZA80-T51R_W0QQitemZ290114604524QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290114604524&_trkparms=72%3A985%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318 nothing wrong with the kit, but there's plenty wrong with the person selling it.... Also, just to add, there is much, much more needed than is listed there, the turbo kit itself is just the start. For the single, DO NOT buy from ebay, get a good understanding of what you want from the car, how the different turbo's and specification perform, then make an informed decision. It's an absolute mine field and many more get it wrong than right.
mikeyb10supra
Welcome Terry....you seem a sensible chap, and congrats on getting your dream car :-) where in essex are you. There are a lot of folk from essex on this board, me included. I have a few good places to take the car if your interested and all of them I totally trust to service and maintain the car for me, just drop me a line Dealers are ok but obscenely priced In terms of brakes....the full UK spec setup is more than capable coupled with braided lines and a nice fluid change. Interested in your light idea, that sounds cool. something similar to the new audis? In response to the single turbo comment....thats a WHOLE different ball game, I would suggest speaking to as many people as you possibly can who have gone down this route as its sometimes a minefield and also a big big money spinner so you have to have the reddies to do it properly Edited August 2, 2008 by mikeyb10supra (see edit history)
juanchan
Hi I will definatly take your advice on craking open a beer maybe ill take my wheels of too?? polishing ill have to see how my girlfriend is feeling lol Sorry, I'd had a few last night. I'm not a fan of my wheels, so I was simply listing what I'd do if I was to spend £2k on my car today. I may already have that one covered though service is already on the cards already just waiting for someone on hear to give me a good contact to take car to or to recommend a performance car service centre in london or essex as ive heard taking modded supras to toyota is not a good idea Brakes are also high on the priority list too but again suggestions would be appreciated as to what to go for I'd recommend Whifbitz or AFR Tuning (both traders on here) for a full service as they're both in the SE. Brakes, unless you're planning on a lot of track days I'd say upgrading your rears to the larger OEM callipers would be sufficient. As for going single, I'll leave that to the experts as I have no idea other than it costs a lot!!
