Anyone had an experience of these SPAturbo usa Cast Iron Single manifolds?

Design looks somewhat better than the "Arnout" style cast manifold. Apparently has near equal length runners which i was never convinced the "Arnout" style did.

Yeah all the ports look a bit rough round the edges, poss bit of time and effort spent on de-burring, port-matching and opening out that wastegate opening.

 

Should have loads of metal to play with there i would have thought being cast and all?

 

Just thought the end result would perhaps be more reliable than a welded tubular type.

Nearly bought an Arnout manifold quite a while back off Miguel i think it was, but changed my mind cos weren't sure bout keeping the auto for those sorta mods.

 

Remember thinking there weren't any other cast jobbies about back then, but just saw this one and thought it looked pretty good (looks can be deceiving!) and yes wastegate flange is tiny!

 

They seem to think 36mm is good for 600hp, i assume that's at the fly. Still not a poor amount to potter around with. :D

The material is not ideal for a turbo manifold, it states high silicon content, it should ideally be high nickel content to help stop cracking and give higher strength at elevated temperatures. Ni Resist High strength, high silicon) type cast iron is a lot more expensive, hence these cheaper manifolds use high silicon content (not silicone as in the ad... ;). The stock, and seemingly totally bullet proof turbo manifold is Ni Resist cast iron.

Still a shame as manifold looked reasonably well/poss CAD designed? Seems like a waste of effort. Guess as the saying goes, never judge a book by it's cover.......

It may last quite adequately, but it's an expensive experiment due to the cost of all the custom pipework to make the manifold functional. If Arnout still does his I'd go that route, but I am unsure whether he's making any more. Anyone know?

These guys at Suprasport appear to manufacture a version of the "Arnout" style manifold, doesn't appear to be any info on the iron composition. Could enquire i guess.

Right, thanks for the link, I was sure someone said he'd stopped doing them. May not be pretty and shiny, but it's substantial, will keep good gas speeds for responsiveness, and has massive flanges and stout construction for durability. Trust me, you get *(^%$£"@~ off very rapidly chasing blows, warps, cracks and worse. You'll have enough to sort without the manifold living at the welders :)
