SteveR Posted June 15, 2008 Share Posted June 15, 2008 Was what the overhead gantry signs said as I was driving Southbound along the M42 at about 6:45pm today. Initally everyone slowed down but within a minute or so must have got bored, figuring the signs were wrong I guess, and built their speeds back up; so now we had some people doing 20~30mph, and some doing 60~80mph, and everything in between. Feck that! I got off at teh next junction, waited 15 mins, then carried on with the journey; VERY cautiously. Ahead the police helecopter seemed to be circling round. A few miles down the road, 6~7 vehicles all on the hard shoulder with lots of skid marks all over the motorway just prior. Slight damage spotted on some but I wasn't really looking; I was still worried some maniac/escapee/stupid person might still be on the loose & driving towards us. Traffic wombles & police on the scene, more belting up the opposite carraigeway I have no idea what that was about but I'm glad I missed it! Going to search some news sites tomorrow, see if anything crops up; I'm too knackered now after my mate's wedding this weekend - just glad to be home in 1 peice! I saw this on you tube a while back, a crazy yank drove onto the wrong side of the road at 90mph and hit an oncoming Supra at the same speed, killed both drivers instantly... It took a while to sink in TBH! Not one I've seen before, nor want to again... I couldn't believe that people ignored it. My thought process was; - eh, does that mean.....? - sh1t! - will it be an old person thinking he's in the right; so he'll be pootling along in MY lane 3; let's avoid that lane - will be be someone confused, and sticking to the hard shoulder as it's clearest; let's avoid that too - will it be a pure & simple mentalist/escapee; in which case they could be in ANY lane! - ok well I'll watch all lanes, and the opposite carraigeway for police driving 'with' the offending vehicle, for something closing on me at probably 100mph plus - Stuff this, bye motorway!! Animal Posted June 16, 2008 Share Posted June 16, 2008 One I see quite frequently is "CAUTION - PEDESTRIANS IN CARRIAGEWAY". I've yet to actually see any evidence of this, but I always imagine a coachload of people just milling around aimlessly in the motorway.
