supraluke
Basicly im on the look out for a car for my mrs. Found an ep3 type r for sale at a fairly decent price, was chatting to the lady who is selling it and said she's just got divorced so shes moving back to germany. I then asked where about the car is located, to which she replied: Let me explain. The car is locked in my garage in the UK , still UK registered , the problem is that at this moment I am located in Germany for the next 6 months because I've just started a new business here with my sister . Due to amount involved, I suggest using the security provided by eBay's Vehicle Purchase Protection Program which will hold the cash. In my opinion this is the safest way to handle the transaction. Secondly, you will receive all appropriate documents along with the vehicle. Naturally, I will sign the section 8 in the V5 form so you can easily transfer the car into your name. This is how it works : 1. The Seller will open the transaction 2. The buyer has to make the payment to eBay Financial Department and they will deposit the money into their escrow account. 3. eBay confirms to seller that the amount has been received. 4. Seller performs the required services (shipping, insurance). 5. Buyer accepts delivery and informs eBay to tell them if he is satisfied or not 6. Financial Department will release the money to the seller. As you can see, you will receive the car BEFORE any money is released to me.From the moment you receive the car you have 5 days to inspect it. If is not like I said or something is not ok with it you can reject it (I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my car is in IMMACULATE condition inside and out) and eBay will fully refund you and the vehicle will be shipped back to me, on my expense.EBay will transfer the money to me only after you will confirm them that the car is ok . Until then, the money will be safe kept by eBay and not released to me. The car will be shipped directly to your requested address, as soon as I will have the payment confirmation from eBay. As soon as i have your FULL NAME AND ADDRESS I will contact eBay and they will give you step by step details on how to proceed with the deal and to make the payment . Let me know if you need anything else Sorry for the long read, but does this actually happen or is it a bit dodgy? cheers Luke

Guest Nicholas
Sounds ok to me, I'd offer to pay for her flight tho and sort it that way.
Guest Angry Koala
Hi mate. There's no such thing as far as I'm aware - Ebay don't handle money which is why there is no pay via Ebay option - paypal is their payment partner. Pistonheads are getting a load of scammers at the moment with similar stories "it's a UK car but I've had to move back to Rome", "my father passed away and I've moved back to Spain but the car is in the UK honest". I've personally received an email with the 1st excuse after enquiring about a Fiesta ST for the missus which seemed too good to be true - as all these things tend to turn out, it is. Pistonheads have issued warnings about it as have some other sites (autotrader are now getting adverts on there with phone numbers that don't exist and in the ad it says please email me (normally a woman's name and email address) as my phone is not working at the moment...... Leave well alone and if anyone tells you you can't view a car or the car will be delivered free of charge on receipt of the money for god's sake walk away!! tbourner
I'd offer to pay for her flight tho and sort it that way. Surely a flight from Germany is only like £2 or something now? Say she can come to yours in the car and have a cuppa, if you take it you'll give her a lift back to the airport.
topgun
I know that Ebay do offer an escrow service - where they act as a third party that holds funds. Even so though - sounds dodgy not being able to meet with the owner. Also, did you see 'The Real Hustle' last night? that featured a scam using an escrow person to hold funds! Guest Angry Koala
All the excuses under the sun will come out for reasons she can't come to the UK and it will get to the point where you either feel pressured to do it like she says or decide to give up. Save yourself the headaches and walk away now!! SCAM!

spartan
Fairly easy to verify independently - just ask eBay! A search on their Help facility reveals that although there is a scheme of this name, it does NOT work the way described and is only available to residents of the USA and Canada using the eBay Motors site (motors.ebay.com) See Vehicle Purchase Protection for more details.
