tbourner
Yeah I know. Found this thread unanswered, but mine's slightly different. It rattles loads with ETTC on (as they do), but it also rattles a little bit in sequential as well. Is this a buggered VSV or loose hose or boost leak or what? Chris Wilson
If you let them rattle the actuator arm is likely to come off the shaft, they are only spot welded on, and it's all but impossible to repair them.
Ian C
Generally it's the exhaust gas control valve actuator arm. I know Keith swapped his out, dunno if it fixed his rattle but if it did I know of another one going spare... -Ian
outatime
With mine, it was a wrongly connected boost hose that was causing the rattle in sequential. I've put everything where it should be, and it no longer rattles in sequential. The rattling in parallel is normal, as the EGCV arm is under no boost pressure and works itself loose. A quick run in sequential mode sorts it out. Check all the hoses going into the EGCV, as well as the pressure tank for a 'hiss'. If air is escaping, the EGCV will rattle. Paul Laing had a rattle on his non-ETTC supra, i'm not sure what happened with that one.

Sod that - I'm waiting until it warms up before I spend a weekend laying on the floor.

Zed
Tbourner, I've just had my EGCV replaced by CW last week, the arm had broken off from the actual flap in the exhaust that it controls. If yours is briken the I believe a couple of guys have some lying around for a reasonable price. I think Dude has one. I had to source one for my UK spec which have a slightly different unit so beware of this, newones from toyota are a little over £400(UK spec). I have some pics of mine when it was broken in a post entitled " is my 2nd turbo dead "? After replacing, car is running brilliantly, also had front cat removed at the same time. (Thanks CW) Hope this is of some help
