Power steering problem

The power sterring stopped on the first one after about 200 miles, and on the second one it stopped almost instantly once a few electrical problems were sorted.

They are run exactly the same as they were before.................

Seems to be a big coinsidence they would both stop working after the turbo install.

I have sorted my power steering now. Seems it was a fuse in the drivers footwell.

feels wierd do drive now because im used to the heavy steering!

Which fuse was it? May be my problem, just checked the rack connectors which seem ok.Didn't think this was fused.

It was on the bottom left row in the drivers footwell and second in from the right as far as im i know.

The power sterring felt as though it wasnt assisted what so ever when i thought it had gone so unsure if it was in the higher speed mode or not....?

Even in "high speed" mode it will be very obviously assisted at parking time, whatever the state of the rack solenoid. If in doubt turn the engine off and compare. You need to be Hercules to not feel the difference.

I think i may have some similar symptoms as descirbed above altough with maybe the progressive power steering.

When i bought the car just over a month ago, the steering was very light and nice at idle/low speed and as speed increases gets heavier or less assisted as it should be. For the past couple of weeks its not feeling light or any different at idle/low speed as it is as high speed. Ive checked the fluid levels and pwer steering pump and they're all fine. IS this due to a faulty progressive power steering solenoid valve?? Are they easy to change and how much are they??

As kieren said above mate. drivers footwell, behind the plastic trim on the right... ;)

Ok, just checked the fuse, not that.

Looking at the rack electrical connectors, there are 3 wires going to the auto, but only 2 on the manual.Any ideas guys? Maybe the auto has different ps switching?

just checked my fuse too, as per the wiring diagram for the pps im going to do this little check porcedure that IanC wrote in a previous thread:

Check the ECU is getting power

Check it's got a connection on the SPD line

Check if the ECU is kicking out a voltage on the solenoid line when the wheel is turned.

If it is, check if the solenoid is seeing this voltage - if not, it's a wire/connector fault. If it is, the solenoid is buggered or the mechanical system still isn't right.
