jevansio
The other job that's been on the go this last week is a sound setup in my car. As you may know when I went single I ditched the stereo in favour of a full set of Defis. Now the sound of a GT4088R with HKS Ti exhaust is great, but after a year it starts to wear pretty thin. I was told of Basemechanics by GeorideSteve & Tom S so went up to see what they could do. I went through what I wanted out of the system with Monty, basically I wanted a totally OEM look (no big speakers & base speakers all over the place), the lack of room for the headunit was also a problem. Anyways here's what they've come back with, pics first: Basically it's a JCV headunit with 2.7" colour screen, the faceplate has been removed and installed into the rear view mirror. A camera has been mounted in my number plate and feeds the screen whenever I go into reverse, or when I flick a control switch. Door speakers are 6" Components and were mounted specifically to retain the OEM covers. Rear quarters contain 2 8" subs, a cover had to be made, but looks as close to OEM as possible. Rockford Fosgate amplifier is in the boot covering the battery. Theres an iPod dock in the centre cubby hole, which is where most of the tunes come from (the headunit itself is pretty much inaccessible). It sounds amazing , what do you think? SupraJames
Now thats a neat trick, with the headunit face in the mirror. Really like that idea, Great work.
AndyT
Very sleek J. Still in awe of the Defi mount though.
JustGav
Looks very nice... What are the legal implications of not having a rear view mirror and using a camera to do it. Just interested as it would save a world of hurt on the tadpole.

Trucks and stuff don't have 'em

Actually i think i remember that it is ok as long as you have two working mirrors, as when my n/s wing mirror was smashed i was told it was still ok to drive as i had two working. Hence why your allowed full tinted rear window and also why old escort vans were allowed on road as rear view mirror or not you wont see through metal

Pete
Nice setup, but I couldn't live without my review mirror.
jevansio
One thing I'm annoyed with is the week before it went in I cut the carpet in the boot to show the rear strut brace, I got a bit carried away and it's not the best job. Monty said he could have done it much neater
jevansio
Nice setup, but I couldn't live without my review mirror. I know what you mean, it is taking a bit of getting used to, The camera doesn't half make you look like you flying along though, also even when a car is behind you it looks pretty far away on the screen
Gazboy
Very neat but wouldn't want it myself.
