Car choices?

CJ

Recommended Posts

My 20 year old son wants to buy a "new" second hand car. He currently has a 1.0 Yaris and is now looking for something with a bit more poke.

He has looked at (and likes) a 2003 Fiesta Flame 1.4 for £5k (way too expensive IMO) but I am trying to get him away from that and to look at Japanese models of the same ilk.

The criteria is thus:

Sporty looking hatchback.

Petrol

1.4 - 1.6 engine

Available in black

£5k or below.

Any suggestions on what is available? By that I mean car types rather than specific links to cars. :)

So something like this?

Glanza Turbo

Not really. His current car is on an X plate and I cannot see him wanting to move backwards in the age stakes. I would also think that the insurance on that would be prohibitive too given the word "turbo" in the description.

I have warned him about the Fiesta he has looked at but for no other reason than a bias towards Japanese cars. Does anyone have any real world experience of the Fiesta?

I can't say the Fiesta Colin but I was never a big fan of Fords until I was given a Mondeo as a company car. Wonderful machines, boringly reliable and great to drive!!

How about a Puma?

Maria had a Fiesta from new a sports version with all the kit, engine was sound and very little in the way of problems. My biggest concern was the rust that developed on a 3 year old car, even signs of if it on rear spoiler, for that alone I would say NO
