peter richards
hi brett mate , survival certificate is a must , being a pipe fabricator by trade looked into it about 10 years ago , but then you had to pay for it yourself , might be lucky to get the company to pay now , just depends on what they want

Greenauto
I do a little bit of offshore work through my job. Not so much on the rigs, but on survey vessels. I'm an Asst. Pipelines Engineer now but have worked in a couple different areas of the oil industry. My company paid for my survival training, but I know a few blokes who put themselves through it and it certainly helped them get offshore work. If you've got a transferable trade and have your survival ticket you should find it pretty easy.

Couple of links to get you on the track, as it were . Warsash, I believe, is your closest training centre. I have heard of major skill and labour shortages offshore so I'm gonna wish you luck mate. AlanM
I used to work ofshore for a good few years. Most companies now expect you to do the survival course yourself, depends how specialised you are

SteamAhead
Hi there mate. If you have any engineering background, my work is often after people. http://www.icstriplex.com/ I won’t bore you with the ins and outs (you can go to there site for that) but in a nut shell, we build and install safety systems for the oil and gas industry. They’ve been in the business for a good 40 odd years, providing systems all over the world. Many of our engineers are on and off shore (and on a VERY good wage) all year round. Our main head office is in Maldon Essex CM9 4LA Hope this is of some help. Jim

tobyg
I do work offshore, and am aware of recent changes. This might be worth a read http://www.petrofactraining.com/regional-ops/documents/Survival_Portfolio.pdf The course you need is (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training - BOSIET) or 'Universal Basic Survival' which now allows you to work in UK, Denmark, Norway and Netherlands. http://www.blackpool.ac.uk/fosc/courses/course_list.htm http://www.nutecuk.com/ http://www.petrofactraining.com/regional-ops/europe.asp Only Petrofac & Nutec seem to have updated the training to include the new Universal survival. Hope this info helps Toby
