i am changing the turbos on a tt auto j-spec.

it already has a fcd and a sld fitted to the ecu and a boost controller

does it have to be re-mapped and if so why

If you're fitting anything other than standard turbos, the pressure/volume of airflow will be different which alters the fuel requirements of the engine. So yes, you will need to remap the fuel injection at a minimum and possibly the ignition as well depending on what spec you're going for.

Aren't turbo kits the best way to go? Expensive, yes, but an HKS kit I presume has all the correct sized wastegate, manifold etc.

correct, go for the complete kit, then a fuel kit, then a standalone ecu, then start grinning even with an empty wallet

What is your budget for the complete install? The price of the turbo is a very small part of the overall cost.

Just as a side point, I know stock twins can push 450hp if pushed and your setup seems 400hp+ already. Do you really have application for the magic 500hp or is it willy waving chit?

I guess the 550hp turbo kit from HKS is about right for circuit use, as anything above that will have huge lag. It's still laggy though compared to stock twins.
