Muffleman
Right, fancy a new graphics card. How's this ? http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/nVidia+GeForce+8800GTS+512MB+PCI-E+?productId=29750 And I guess it will be okay in my old motherboard ? (Old, only bought it 18months ago ) This one http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/motherboard/motherboard_detail.php?pMODEL_NAME=AN8+32X&fMTYPE=Socket%20939 Any other recommendations ? Not looking for cutting edge, but want to play everything at a good level of detail. Cheers
Epic
think you could get the 8800gts cheaper from other sites to be honist. have a look around, ebuyer, scan.co.uk and overclocker.net
Muffleman
Thanks mate, just had a bit of a look round. What about this ? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-087-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927 And does it matter that I'm still on XP ? I know I can't use DX10. AlexM
Look for an 8800GT 512MB, it's faster than the GTS 320MB/640MB (older product) and there's not much between the GT, the GTS 512MB (new GTS) and the GTX (apart from significant price differences). Ebuyer have one at £159.99 - they do tend to sell out very quickly.
Epic
Nah XP should be fine mate, some of the fastest and best systems about for gaming are still running XP as its more stable, i think you can still install DX10 but wont get all the benefits of Vista. i would recommend eVGA products for support and generally performance. but its all at a cost. im currently build a new gaming PC as we speak. i have my Q6600 CPU and OCZ 1066mhz 2GB Ram, need to get the eVGA 780i Mobo and a 8800gts like your self
Daston
XP will be fine (it actualy runs a little faster on DX9) the card is very long so be sure you got the space in the case as well as enough power to run it
Muffleman
Look for an 8800GT 512MB, it's faster than the GTS 320MB/640MB (older product) Ah right, I got that wrong then - thought the GTS was better than the GT. So, GTS is 3rd, GT is 2nd and GTX is 1st ? Think it will be a GT
AlexM
The GTS 640MB/320MB was the mid-high end product, and the GTX was the high end product. There was recently a refresh though and it goes along the lines of GTS
DamanC
Get a GT. The GT is faster than the GTS and everso slightly slower than the GTX. They clock well and will supass a GTX should you so wish. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-022-GI&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1008
stevie_b
£200! I've just replaced my graphics card with one that cost £12 inc delivery. I think you're playing a few leagues above me!
