garetheves
Ive got a maximum of £250 to spend on a nice new LCD monitor. I could afford a low standard 24" but id rather get a good quality 22" one and have narrowed it down to the 2 below. The product specs on them both are fairly similar. The LG is obviously cheaper as LG products are but im not convinced the Samsung is worth forking out the extra money for (albeit only 30 quid or so). Itll be mainly used for games and browsing the internet, i dont do any design or anything like that. Ive got a Samsung LCD tv which im very pleased with but ive heard a lot of good things about LG stuff, its meant to be great value for money. 1. Samsung 2. LG

colsoop
The samsung has gotten some good reviews here and is slightly cheaper. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-050-SA Having said that the L:g gets good reviews too
juanchan
Not sure what the quality of their PC montiors is, but I've just bought a new LCD TV, and the screens made by LG were superior to those made by Samsung IMO. Picture is clearer, contrast is better, colours were more vivid etc.

CJ
Just to muddy the waters even more... I have an Emprex 22" monitor and use it as a PC monitor and to watch DVD's and I am very impressed with the VFM and quality. These are they here

That said, it was an LG screen in a Philips TV that stood head and shoulders above the rest. The LG ones were a close second. Not so easy with PC monitors really. If you can see them both in action at the same time, it'd make the decision a lot easier for you Gaz.
garetheves
Cheers for input so far guys. In response to a few points. I have been into PCW and Currys today to see some in action but their selections were pretty dire, they did have a samsung one but not the one ive put above so ive not been able to see any in action. That Samsung Pebble was another one i was considering. Col, the only trouble with the monitor you linked is the response time is a bit slower than the other 2 and the contrast ratio is slower as well. Hmm i really cant make my mind. They have both had good reviews. Im tempted to say the LG and save the 40 quid.
CJ
Ah right. Of course, not using it for gaming etc, I would not see the difference.
juanchan
Contrast ratios are a bit of a grey area too. Each manufacturer has their own methods of calculating it, and they use different scales. Which is why some screens have 1600 contrast ratio, yet the one next to it is 8500.

Pabs
Lame I know, but the Samsung "looks" better - I prefer black to silver.
juanchan
Well the LG is winning on the poll at the moment but only 5 of you buggers have voted I'd try a little further afield in shops to see them in the flesh. From the photos of the two, the Samsung looks more aesthetically pleasing, but that doesn't mean it's the best one though
Sted
I would go for the LG if it has the higher contrast ratio's.
garetheves
I would go for the LG if it has the higher contrast ratio's. Thats the trouble, they are the same. Spec wise they are virtually identical.

I think keep your £30 quid and get us all a drink tomorrow, hows that..
