ivan
Lin and I are planning a trip out to Aus to see a friend of hers in Perth in a few months time. The plan is to fly straight to Perth, spend a couple of weeks there, then fly back with a 3 night stopover in Singapore for a bit of sight-seeing. We're undecided which airline to go with but have heard that Singapore Airlines are pretty good, whilst Qantas have mixed reviews. Has anyone done anything similar? If so, what would be your recommendations?
juanchan
Qantas have only one plane crash to their history I believe, and that one wasn't fatal
jim_supra
When I went to Oz I flew with Singapore airlines to Perth. I thought the flight was quite good (first ever time on a plane too!), plenty of films and tv shows to watch to pass the time, the food was ok too. I've been on other airlines to other places now but Singapore are still the best so far.
damientt
Try Aeroflot.
Pot
Sod going there, evil spiders... *Shudders* Make sure you look behind the toilet when you go, and if you think you're safe doing a number one, they can jump... And they're the size of your face... And the ones that can't see so well wear glasses now, they're clever buggers, next thing you know they'll be stealing your car... You can't trust those gits, they've adapted their legs so they can use them like arms, and they have 8 of them, they're even better at building stuff now than the Japanese, and the Japs were good because they've got little hands, think how small a spiders hands are, and now they've got 8 of them!... The whole world is doomed, as long as we all keep them in Australia... I say free guns for all, just to defend us from 10 foot tall spiders, that's what they have! AARRGGHHH!!!... bigcol
BA are good but bloody expensive, try emerites or quatar airways. or even cathay pacific
Pot
Catherine or her pacifists won't save you at all, heed my words, run to the hills!... Actually, don't, they can climb hills too!... Best board a blimp to make sure you're safe, those spiders can stick to the undercarriage of a plane you know! That's how they got there in the first place!... Take fire with you, that's the only way to survive, hence all the barbies

That made me crease up. Now I don't exactly "like" spiders after a rather scary experience in Thailand with a butterfly spider (the cleaner told us "that bite you, you die")... but you my friend have issues. Nic
Singapore Airlines is one of the best there is, they have the cutest flight attendants too In comparison Quantas usually has butch female flight attendants and camp male flight attendants . ivan
Uergh! I can't think of anything worse than a camp Aussie male flight attendant.
flukey-lukey
I went to Perth when I was 12 with Singapore Airlines to see my Grandma. It was very enjoyable, they look after you very well. I didn't spew my guts up until the very last 30 mins when the pilot decided to bank the plane over when we were approaching Perth Airport We stayed for 6 weeks and travelled down the west coast to Albany and it was the best road trip of my life! I'd recommend you do it! And remember, the wildlife doesn't always stay in the wild! I woke up one morning with a red back spider crawling down my leg, hence the reason I S**T myself whenever I see a spider now

From what I've heard, Singapore Airlines or Qantas are pretty good on legroom. The only company I've flown with who have provided me with enough leg room has been BA (never been with SA or Q though). AndyT
Lol Pot you're beginning to sound like Ewen mate... Agree with Nic. Singapore Airlines = great, as are Emirates (airline of the year afew times now. ) Perth is a very nice place too. Get out to Freemantle for some colonial surroundings too. ivan
Looks like SAL it is then. Thanks everyone. I think we've (she's) decided on: UK - Perth direct, for 10 days with her friend Perth - Singapore, sightseeing for 3 days Singapore - UK
Guest Genesis
I have just come back from Aus and this time I flew Qantas thinking that they are one of the best airlines. I was disappointed to be honest, the food was terrible, the flight attendants were stroppy and all of the men were so camp I couldn't stop myself from giggling every time I was offered 'tea or coffee'. I have flown Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific and would definately choose either of these next time. Also, just a note of caution - British Airways and other smaller european airlines were on board Qantas with me as they merged the flights. BA have a contract with Qantas, so booking with BA might mean that you fly with Qantas anyway. You can check the Qantas website to see which flights are being merged. Have a nice time tho, whichever airline you choose and don't forget your mossie spray!
Gaz Walker
You can be guaranteed BA will lose your frigging luggage too, so I'd steer clear of that option. Gaz.
s marsh
We are in Perth at the moment, come here every year. We took Singapore Airline before, but got disappointed two years ago, so this is the second time we took Emirates Airline. Not too bad, but we just found a better way which we are going to try next time. AIR NEW ZEALAND is great for space, I am 6ft tall, after sitting down, I still have 3 inches space with front seat, they have the biggest space among all the airlines. But they don't fly to Perth directly, so you can fly from Heathrow to Hong Kong(around £350 return including tax), then take another airline from Hong Kong to Perth, more choices from Hong kong. Check on internet for the fare.
