  1. Certainly is ... Well I say that, it was until last weekend when the rad decided to become a steaming fountain at 11 at night :-( 4-5 litres of water, drive 3 miles, 4-5 litres of water, drive 3 miles .... You get the idea. Weather permitting I'll put the new rad in tomorrow.
  2. Scrubbed all the green crud and moss off and it made it to the MOT station http://springboxconsulting.com/images/supra/mot1.JPG
  3. The garage boss was quite confused, as was I. To avoid the argument of whether it should have passed or not I happily paid the bill and got out of there. Likely not to return. - - - Updated - - - That's the way to do it I hear... I'll know for next time now.
  4. I'd replace the coil pack plugs immediately if I were you! I've just done them on mine, dead easy.
  5. the voice of experience .. right i'll crack on then! Cheers Matt!
  6. so the bumper can stay on? any recommendation on the fluids to use for the auto box?
  7. I've bought a new rad since mine left me stranded on Sat night .. top up and drive 4 miles .. top up and drive 4 miles ... no fun. Is the rad difficult to swap over? 94' TT auto. I know it has the gearbox cooler in the bottom etc.. I just wondered if anyone has a step by step guide to replacing it or whether you should just throw it into the garage? cheers all
  8. Well it may all be for naught now ... i've just jumped online to check the MOT status and tax it and low and behold the record says it has passed and allowed me to tax it. When I stop f'ing and blinding I'll have to give this chap a call and ask WTF is going on! .... he's not getting paid at this rate lol.
  9. top advice fellas .. I've called BiggRed and for £169 protected/painted for the pair it's hard to refuse!
  10. I've got to replace one of the front callipers, common sense will push me to replace both of them. It's an import TT '94. I'd like to avoid the cost of a massive upgrade, but I'm interested in what you guys think about using UK spec callipers (if i cannot find jap spec ones), if there is anything you need to replace at the same time etc Is there anything I should look out for, buy these/don't buy those advice would be much appreciated! thanks all
  11. Right, I get ya ... this guy though being a decent bloke is at the intelligence level to accept what ever the computer tells him and the law book. All round it'll just be easier to put the cat back on and cross my fingers lol. Thanks for the insight Benjy!
  12. Hold on, you said that my '94 need to have a cat to pass but you're saying here that any TT earlier that aug '95 (like mine) doesn't need a cat fitted ... ? I do like the "can't see it, can't fail it" mantra. maybe I should design a complete under vehicle tray that you tie on just to annoy the tester hehe
  13. if you can point me to someone i'm sure beer tokens can come your way I'm in Essex but don't mind a little travel to save all this messing around.
  14. Thanks Benjy ... ... now where the hell did I leave it ...
  15. Hi Benjy, 94' 2JZ-GTE TT RZ.
  16. Performance direct, limited mileage classic insurance £215. Zero no claims as I'm using it on my main car.
  17. It is still as clear as mud to me. Mine has failed for the same reason, so unless I can show the garage a vosa/dft/mot rules type document that shows they have performed the test incorrectly, then no cat still means an instant fail. I appreciate the help from everyone, Benjy seems to know his stuff .... Is there a doc you can point me to that I can shove under their nose and get my car back?
  18. Ok, i've found what I didn't want to see .. i think he is right. http://www.partinfo.co.uk/files/VOSA%20Inspection%20Manual%20Classes%203%204%205%20&%207.pdf Section 7.1 simply says that a catalytic converter mission where one was fitted as standard is a reason for rejection (MOT fail) it doesn't mention anything regarding petrol or diesel...
  19. TT ... pretty standard besides the suck and blow being less restricted. I put a fair bit of work through my indy so though i'd never like to tell him how to do his job, if there were a sheet of paper saying he has the wrong end of the stick and it is for diesels only I'd happily bring it to his attention. (and get my car back)
  20. I'll go to the DfT on this and see what they say. I'd be over the moon if you're right! He was adamant that the wording is"catalyst" and "particulate on diesel cars" and not "catalyst and particulate" on diesel cars. Massive difference between the two, though I do agree the wording is very poor. It doesn't change the fact that he has put into the computer that the cat has been removed, the test stopped with an instant fail.... we're in the world that the computer said no and the MOT tested is little more than a trained monkey following a checklist. At this point I would really love a MOT trained member to set the record straight ... anyone?
  21. The tester said it applies to both petrol or diesel. Cat for petrol, part' filter for diesel. The simple rule is, if you have removed it then the MOT is an instant fail. no getting around it I'm afraid. He also mentioned that the company on the same industrial estate who offer the diesel dfp removal are about to go out of business because of it ... not happy.
  22. I apologise if this is old news but I've just been informed by my local indy, not only of my mot failure but the reason why ... As the car has no cat anymore it is now an immediate failure! [sHOCK][/sHOCK] He wasn't lying either https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/275427/mot-special-notice-1-2014.pdf So having spent all week, cleaning, changing bits, de-rusting, oiling, scrubbing some more, getting the f'ing thing to start, run and drive as I remember it once did. It bloody fails because the second cat is missing. Now having walked home in the pissing rain leaving the car in the shop so I can dig through my garage and hope I didn't throw the cat out. Just thought you should all know.
  23. Hi all, I joined back in 200x when I bought my first supra.. loved it. Since then i've been through a few cars but the MKIV itch needed scratching. I've had the pleasure of finding a supra in a barn ... literally! ... stock TT auto, silver, leather, scratched to bits but interior and mechanically sound. just a shame it looked like it was used to sharpen chisels. Tidied up to be a daily runner for a few years until a job change and fuel prices sent my wallet into a deep dark hole... it has since sat idle for 4 years. I know I know it was cruel and it did turn quite green. Now .. anything rusted has been replaced or being cleaned up it is back on the road, subject to the MOT lol... anyhow, thought i'd say hi again. Rob Braintree, Essex
